In Command Squads in the Space Marine Codex it says you may upgrade one of the Veterans to a Company Champion with a Power Weapon and Combat Shield. Does he retain the Bolt Pistol he originally had? From the description it sounds like no, the Champion only has the Power Weapon and Combat Shield, and this seems to be the way Army Builder sees it too. However, I just got the Command Squad box set and the Combat Shield arm for the Company Champion has a Bolt Pistol molded to the back of the shield itself, indicating that he does indeed keep the pistol.

So which way is it supposed to be?

As far as I understood it, the combat shield strapped on to the arm and wasn't a replacement like the storm shield which is held in the hand. So yes, you keep the bolt pistol.

Yeah, that's what I figured. What threw me when I was pointing up a Command Squad is the fact that you can give one of the guys in the squad a Power Weapon for 15 points OR for that same 15 points you can make hima company Champion where he gets that plus a Combat Shield and WS of 5. Seems like quite a deal to me!

I'm pretty sure that since it doesn't "replace" anything that he already has, he just adds the power weapon and shield to his current wargear.
