We have been experiencing a lot of "spam" members joining the forum in recent weeks. I started to delete them as they occurred, but with a gradual increase in volume this has become increasing time consuming on my part. I've probably deleted over 100 spam members over the last two months.
We have therefore taken the decision to move the forum to another service provider that filters out spam members, and also provides an ad-free service which is a bit more pleasing to the eye. Although the forum has not be used to a huge extent, it has been useful for distributing information on rides, events and results which we hope members will continue to contribute to and make more use of.
You will find that the old forum is now closed, and in a few weeks will probably be deleted automatically.
The new forum is available here: http://breconwheelers.freeforums.org
For those members who have registered, you will need to do so again. You can skip straight to the registration screen by clicking the link below: http://breconwheelers.freeforums.org/profile.php?mode=register&agreed=true
Unfortunately all the previous posts from the old forum cannot be transferred to the new one, but I have added a few of the most important ones to get us started.
Please feel free to drop me an email/PM if you have any questions.
Cheers,
Ian |

| Ian - I've been having the same problem, although it has reduced since I set the visual account activation to on we still get spam users (just deleted one now in fact). I think the only way to really stop spam users is to set membership to admin approved accounts only in general configuration - but then this takes time to sort out in itself. |

Yeah, I did all that. Spambots appeared to be bypassing the visual thing somehow and still getting through. I only recently started getting "new user account" messages, despite having had the admin approval turned on from the beginning.
Remains to be seen if the BW forum comes to anything to be honest. Its a good idea, but only if people actually use it... |
