The World's first 24hr Road Race Coming to Brecon (well near Brecon anyway, it is being held on the Epyant) in 2008. Format is 24hrs + 1 lap of a 8.9 mile circuit using closed roads inside the army training ground on the Eypant. Date 12/13 July. Brought to you be the same people who gave MTBers Mountain Mayhem and Dusk til Dawn.

Elementary my dear Watson
Now that there are course pics, profile and even a movie online, I will continue my sleuthing to determine where the route goes

Hallo,
Is anyone here up for entering this? I'm definitely keen on getting involved, done some 24hr mtb racing and 12hr solo stuff before but have had a year without and am chomping at the bit! A mate of mine does a lot of road racing and mtb nationals and he's keen too (but he's based in Manchester), anyone like to join us in a team? Am based in Brecon and want to get out as much as possible (few weeks away now over christmas but will be back early Jan), including getting down to the Velodrome... Anyone else up for similar shenanigans?

On the face of it I like the idea of it, though not really read into it properly as yet. I'll have to check whether it clashes with anything else, but on the face of it I reckon it might be do-able.
ps Well up for the velodrome anytime. _________________ The biggest supplier of kit to UK entrants in the MdS and other extreme ultra's. If its on our website its in stock. Dispatched on day of order. Free no obligation advice from athletes who have been there and done it. www.likeys.com |

Entries are not open yet, and rules, etc not yet available either. There are a max of 250 teams, 5 members per team. The race involves each team accumulating as many laps as they can within the 24hrs. A minimum of 3 members of the team must be on the circuit at any one time. There are various categories of teams from elite to 4th Cat. If you are not a member of British Cycling, or not have a British Cycling race license, and therefore a racing category you can still enter and you will be entered as a 4th Cat rider. Don't know yet about mixed teams, in terms of sex or racing category.

I haven't seen this quoted anywhere? Would make the race interesting that's for sure... |

My info comes via Jason Jenkins who heads up the National Escort Group Wales. They have been asked to supply motorbike escort for the event. So it is not official info as yet.

The logistics alone make that hard to believe. Assuming a full entry (which is probably what the organisers are expecting) then that would mean potentially 1250 riders (but a minimum of 750) on a 10 mile course at any one time. Considering they will be riding in a chain gang format would make collisions very probable.
Using simple maths that potentially equated to one rider every 12.87 metres all around the route (assuming a very unlikely even spread).
As theoretically its a time trial type event with teams trying to go as far and as fast as they can overtaking and being overtaken is going to be interesting procedure.
No idea why I am writing all this - I currently doubt I could ride a bike for 24 minutes let alone consider anything as stupid as this event.... _________________ Running, Adventure Racing, Triathlon, Biking - Inov8, Craft, Under Armour, Buff, Raidlight, OMM, Marmot, nuun plus loads more.... | Looking at it another way, each rider will be on the bike for 14.4 hours, on average, which at 17mph equates to about 250 (hilly) miles... |

Seems to me limiting the event to just 250 teams seems a bit ambitious. Don't think they are likely to get 250 teams, wonder if it is a miss print, and it is really 250 riders.

Hi Ian, Still can't work out where this is even with the biggerized map and the northings - any more clues? _________________ The biggest supplier of kit to UK entrants in the MdS and other extreme ultra's.
