Not making excuses - just looking to maximise the fun
I've mentioned it to a few others in BW, but not many keen runners. Ryan doesn't have an mtb just now, unless you know of one he could borrow? |

It will be fun and you will get some use of your 5 incher if you want
Ryan could borrow my MTB but the gearing is still a problem, I'm sure someone can find him a spare bike _________________ "The greatest pleasure in life, is doing the things people say we cannot do." |

Oh dear, looks like enthusiasm from the MB Wales boys has dwindled... down to just me at the minute, sorry Steven. As for bikes to be ridden - I'm guessing a 7" travel beast is a bit too much then? Though it's given me an idea for a new race format (not that I'm knocking this one mind)... DH mountainbike followed by a hill climb run
I'll fill out one of those membership forms on the day if that's ok?
See you on Saturday

Steve,
Sorry for the late update; Lynda can't make it and I'm working on Chris. Chips will do nicely! See you there.

Great stuff, look forward to seeing you both, I think Chris's MTB will suit him better this time!
For everyone coming: It is very wet on the hill, the snow settled this afternoon but is going fast and should all be gone by 11am. You will need shoes with good grip, and possibly wet weather gear, the wind is making it very cold up there - my hands were very cold today, but the ultimate decision is yours. Stick a bottle on the bike as no fluids are provided.
Please try and be there before 11am to set up so we can start as close to 11 am as possible _________________ "The greatest pleasure in life, is doing the things people say we cannot do." |

Now Neil I'd be interested in that Downhill with a Hill Climb at the end to utilise my new downhill bike (when its put back together as its in storage at the mo) with 8 inches of travel. Providing its on a Saturday I'm not working or on a Sunday.
PS All the best guys for todays Duathlon. Have a safe ride and run and I'll definitely be up for a bit of this when i eventually move to Abergavenny.

Steve,
You will have noticed that I did not get to the hill, sorry about that. Definatly my loss - things conspired against me, will do better at the next one.... However, hope it all went well, weather looks much better today.
If you need cash for food that was ordered just shout.

Well done to all the guys who took part today and thank you for coming along, I hope you all "enjoyed" it. Thanks particularly to Dave Townhil for putting signs out, marshalling the highest, most exposed part of the course and collecting signs again and Sue Deval for marshalling at the last minute after someone started taking down the route signs!
In the end we had great weather, with a fair bit of snow and ice underfoot, and lots of mud and water also
I'll post times up later but congratulations to Matt who won, Neil Cox with second place and Neil James who came in third. Superb efforts by everyone as this was not an event for the faint-hearted
Check out a few more pics here

Thanks Steve for organising a great event, and to Sue and Dave for standing around in the cold to make sure we didn't get lost.
It was a great venue for such an event - I'm not just saying this because its 10 minutes from my house. Next time? I think we could overcome the sign problem somehow by doing without them and issuing simple maps or using a straightforward route, perhaps.
Anyway, I'd be up for something similar again, in a few months time.
I might have shaken off my cold by then and a couple of superfluous pounds. Andrew j |

Just thought I'd echo what's already been said, thanks to everyone for what was a great little event. I'd definitely be up for some more of the same. Hamish's Pen Y Fan and board game ideas sound interesting, how about combining a Pen y Fan fell race with a round of Trivial Pursuit at the top? - thorough exercise for body and mind. That's probably a worse idea than the uphill run/downhill bike...

Actually, I felt pretty faint hearted by the end...
Ta for going to all the trouble for organising it though - I really enjoyed it |
