|
This weeks session will involve more proper swimming for both lanes after spending a fair bit of time on drills last week. We will perform each of the 5 kick and rotation drills from last week before the main set.
The main set will be about using the pace clock during a session. The pace clock is a very useful tool in the pool and I would like us all to use it more during club sessions, and hopefully you can incorporate it into your own sessions. This will allow you to design your own training sessions better to get the correct amounts of swimming and rest. This should alter as you approach the race season to increase intensity and lengthen the rest periods
The advantages of the pace clock are:
-You can easily measure your times over any distance from 50 to 200 without using a stopwatch
-Use the clock to count your laps for longer distances (in combination with a stopwatch if needed)
-Monitor improvements in your speed over the season
-Work out how long a training set is going to take you when planning it
-Structure your session to make sure you are not working too hard or taking too much rest
-Work on different intensities of swimming to improve your performance
-Help to keep club sessions running smoothly
Please bring fins again as I only have 4 pairs
I hope that most of you do have an idea in your head of your own training sessions. In general it should follow the same format that we use:
Warm up
Drills
Main set
Warm down
Drills are vital if you want to improve your stroke, or even to stop it deteriorating. They should be done correctly and not fast
The main set you should try to keep interesting and varied, otherwise you may get very bored of swimming!
See you all on tuesday night (for those that managed to read all this - well done!) _________________ "The greatest pleasure in life, is doing the things people say we cannot do." |
