| Warner Bros. reported me to eBay as violating their "intellectual property rights" by selling pin-ups featuring their characters. As far as I can tell, they are the only publisher who does this. Most other publishers are willing to overlook when their artists sell OOAK artwork featuring their characters, since it's not mass-produced and it's basically free advertising. Apparently this is not true of WB/DC. Ah, well...so I'm suspended for a week, and I'm just waiting for them to process my paperwork for reinstatement. I guess in the future I won't be promoting DC characters on eBay. |

That sucks. There are tons of people who sell sketches of DC characters. _________________

| Yup...but probably not in the same volume. I think they just troll the listings every now and then...and since I usually have auctions up... |

| With prints, I understand...as they are produced in some quantity. But one-of-a-kind artwork? Seems a bit nit-picky. And again, these companies want artists to draw their books, so they expect the artists to spend a lot of time honing their craft...but won't allow the artists to help feed themselves off of the effort? |

I also get the sense that there may be some favoritism to all of this. If it's a big-name artist, will they bother with the wrist-slapping...or is it only with smaller artists?
Who did they approach about prints at con this year? If they were being fair, they certainly would have approached Adam Hughes and forced him to stop selling the numerous prints they were selling. If it's favoritism, though, they approach Joe Blow and turn a blind eye to the thousands of dollars profitted from AH!s print sales. |

I seem to remember Allison, AH's rep saying that they get some grief from DC also. In fact if memory serves, they didn't pre-announce what print was going to sell at SDCC so that DC had less time to pre-empt them. _________________ http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryDetail.asp?GCat=9818 |

My friend John told me (when he was working for them) they(DC) were trying to go after sketch books as well. He did tell me that they were walking a fine line of not scaring off the meal ticket artists most of whom have sketchbooks each year but the prints must be a big deal on their radar. _________________ CAF Gallery |

| Ya know that is a real pain. They would suspend you because of using their characters. So what are you going to do since many of the auctions you do involve lots of DC characters> |

Forget about evilbay there are other methods of selling that do not cut into your bottomline as badly. One way to sell directly through your site and the mailing lists. Thanks for listening! _________________ WANTS

Its all about the $$$$. They don't go after rip offs like this piece because the seller isn't going to make much money on it. However, a guy like Benes or the like gets slapped because their art fetches a high rate of return.
