OK, maybe that's a bit presumptuous at this point...but I'd be curious to hear other opinions on this film, if anyone's seen it. I've gotta tell you, though...this film seriously scared the crap out of me. I'm a big fan of a good horror movie, especially if they're genuinely frightening and not just disturbing/gory/silly (as most seem to be). I went into this one knowing nothing (not even knowing that it was actually a horror movie)...a friend just said I should see it. WOW. It was very visceral, in that I left the theater amazed at how genuinely unsettling it had been, and feeling almost as if I had gone through that experience on a more personal level.

Anyway...if you like scary movies, please check it out...then let me know what you thought of it. Smile

Well...I used to like the old Friday the 13th movies (at least the first 4, though I also saw 6 and 7...and, regrettably, Jason Goes to Hell (9?)...and I like the first four Nightmare movies, and the first two Halloween flicks...but then again, I also liked the last two Halloween flicks (H20 and whatever the other new Jamie Lee Curtis one was). Basically, guess I saw a lot of the horror flicks from the '80s...and some of the cheesier ones, too, though I can't remember too many of their names. Also really enjoyed the Saturday the 14th spoof...though probably saw that for the last time when I was 12 or so. Don't know if I'd still like it now (probably not). I always liked the "trapped in a shopping mall at night with a serial killer" flicks. No plot, but fun.

I dunno, I like anything that looks disturbing...so I've seen Hostel, the new Hills Have Eyes, the Saw movies, all that crap...

Always loved the original "Dawn of the Dead", but the remake is pretty fantastic, too...for different reasons. Hope they give the same treatment to "Day of the Dead". And Land of the Dead had it's moments, too...but overall, just ok.

Ever see that Texas Chainsaw Massacre with Matthew McConnaughey and Renee Zellweger? Horrible. Capital "H" horrible.

Another great disturbing movie, though not necessarily a horror movie..."Sympathy for Lady Vengeance". Third flick in the Korean "vengeance trilogy". "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance" was the first one, and kinda sucked. "Oldboy" was the second, and was pretty good...but Lady Vengeance was EXCELLENT.

Now that I think about it, I guess I watch a lot more horror movies than I originally thought...and the post is much longer than intended as well.

If you want to see the nastiest Gorefest movies check out Lucio Fulci. His stuff takes it to the next level. They didn't have all of the great fake blood of
the big American studios so they would use slaughter house remains. His movies are on par with just about any of the stuff now for shock and they're approaching 30 years old.
How about the Hammer films? They were always my favorites I thought they were the closest to reading a comic book as horror movies go.
Anybody else have any great horror movies they have seen?

PS: I haven't seen the Renee Zelwiger Texas chainsaw massacre. I saw the one with Jessica Biel. It was okay. I think the thing that scared me about the original was that I had never seen any of those people in a movie and it was very gritty and realistic.

I used to be nuts for Horror movies. I have cooled down to an extent but I retain the gathered trivial knowledge. As for a Fulci film they're all very bizarre it really comes down to a merit badge for horror fans to sit through all the nastiness.
He is most famous for Zombie (I believe it is contemporary to Dawn of the Dead)and the gates of Hell.

The Hammer films are much more enjoyable for me as a comic fan. Hammer was a production company that produced horror films in the 60's and 70's and I am sure earlier on as well. Any horror movie from that time period with Christopher Lee or Peter Cushing is probably a Hammer Film. They did all of the Dracula (Prince of Darkness) movies and Frankenstien, etc. Good fun stuff. They show a lot of it on AMC (basic Cable movie channel) around Haloween.

OK, so I just saw Zombie last night. Sure, it had some cool gore, but for the most part I was just bored. The story was an afterthought and I spent the second half of the movie just waiting for it to end. Sad

I'm also going to try "New York Ripper"...and I've also queued a few movies by Argento ("Suspiria" and "Jenifer"), so I'll let you know if those are any better.

Yeah Like I said there sort of a gore merit badge. They are incredibly bizarre. I think the Dunwich Horror was supposed to be really nast. I remember one of those had a drill press scene that was pretty good. Romero had much better stories. Suspiria is supposed to be good but I haven't seen it so I can't say.
Try the Hammer stuff. Curse of Dracula etc. They have quality actors in a B movie setting. Last but not least there is always the monster classic "Them". One of my all time favorites.

If you like that you should watch the Japanese original of the RING and the GRUDGE. The remakes are toned down considerably. IMO those are two of the scarier films made in the last ten years. But, if you do not believe me watch them yourself and just, think about it.
