The regional meeting is scheduled for 7.30pm on Thursday 12th June, at the Olde Bull Inn, Barton Mills, Suffolk.
The club needs to represented. Anyone interested in FT will be welcome to attend. I have directions to the pub so let me know.
Among other things there'll be a review of the winter league - and probably another discussion on what to do about timing, stopwatches etc. and whether to continue with a Sporting class next year.
Plans will be made for next years winter league, particularly picking the calender of what comps will happen and where.
Plans will be laid down for GP9 to be held at Sywell in August. I think anyone interested in FT would enjoy that comp. Also, they do ask that FT shooters from across the region turn out to help run the event rather than just leave it to Sywell members. A Grand Prix is an event held by a region, not a club.
The FFTA also needs a competition secretary. I think the job mostly involves collating and publishing scores from the Winter League comps and the Grand Prix. Let me know if you might be interested in volunteering.
Finally, if there are any questions or issues you want me to raise on the clubs behalf you need to let me know in advance. |

Brief upshot of the meeting;
1) Lea Valley is to host the Fenlands Open on Sunday 26th October.
This is still subject to confirmation.
The meeting will probably start around 9.30/10am, followed by a buffet lunch, with the 40 tgt shoot to start around 12pm. Entry to the shoot is dependent on your attendance of the meeting. Prizes are awarded for grades AA-C, Springer & Sporting.
2) New shooters in the next Winter League
First time entrants to the next winter league will be automatically entered into B grade, rather than C as they have been in the past.
3) Sporting shooters in the Winter League
Last year, only 1 person entered enough Sporting rounds of the WL to qualify for a trophy. The Sporting class will be run again this year, but its future existence will be reviewed at the FFTA Committee meeting in January 2009.
4) GP9 at Sywell
See my other post on this forum board.
5) LVAGC on BFTA website
For a historical reason, we have been listed under CSFTA rather than FFTA. We are to be moved into the FFTA section.
6) WL Briefing & Rules
This had a few consequences:
A motion was raised that the briefing read out at the beginning of each shoot should be shortened. Considerably. Apparently, a lot of people found it tedious.
In response, it was suggested that the full briefing is necessary in order to prevent cheating.
The solution agreed was:
i) everyone should know what the rules are, since everyone has probably done it before;
ii) the briefing can be shortened, but
iii) in future, everyone will have to shoot with a randomly assigned stranger - to prevent friends being tolerant of cheating
iv) to facilitate people being randomly assigned, everyone will have to be at the shoot by 9.45am
v) if you are late, you may not enter the Open section but may still enter the Springer or Sporting re-entry sections
vi) all the above revisions will be reviewed at WL Round 3, to be held at Hereward on 30th November
As your rep, I voted against (6) above because I don't see it as helpful or likely to increase participation. If you have any views on it then tell me or stick them on here.
Next FFTA commitee meeting is Thursday 4th September. |
