Well I thought it only fair after giving The Bunny Bash a bit of a roasting on here, that I ought to say a few words about Ratties independence shoot ,hosted by MVAC.
It was a sunny June day and a 7.30 start saw cooperman and myself there by 9.30 with teas in hand. The wood used is only available for special events , so there are no permanent facilities. There was a 30 shot 15 peg course set up, a pistol course,a `gamble course` and zeroing/plinking area. The HFT course was shot from a track that ran through the wood across a hill , so shots 1-15 were predominantly down hill and shots 16-30 up hill, ranges were probably biased toward the long side for HFT and no ridiculously small kill zones. I`ve got to say I do like the shooting pegs back from the firing line as it stops the pegs being used as firing supports. I shot with Colin,Dave Lily and Tony Haas and we started by struggling to get our muzzles over the firing line while still keeping contact with the peg. After a few pegs we realised we were the only group sticking to this rule and gave up trying to clear the shooting rope with our muzzles. I feel the relaxed atmosphere is very condusive to this type of shoot , but the safety aspect leaves a little to be desired and could be addressed better at the briefing.
All in all a great day out in a friendly atmosphere, I think the weather makes so much difference to everybodys demeanour.
