The Alfreton/South Normanton thing's quite funny (to us at least!) because they are from the same area as us. They were going to perform without a female singer, keyboardist or a drummer, they were going to get by with a guitar, bass and two male vocals. As you well know Tim, an absolute recipe for disaster! They've had an advert in the Admag for ages, but as far as we know, there's been no response.
I wish them luck though, now the couch are "not performing at the moment" (Eddys words, not mine!!) I don't get the chance to see a "South tribute" like most of you lucky people Ha ha!! Laughing Laughing

[quote="Larry the Loafer"]No, they're a Hull-based duo! Been going for a few months now (singing to backing tracks) - Have a search on Youtube, there's a few clips on there!

They're looking to start a full band up as soon as possible! What's the Alfreton / South Normanton called? Are they a duo or full band?[/

I've seen clips on youtube and from what I've heard and seen I am not in the least impressed, although I have heard people talk highly about them...Just don't get it myself.

The Sands don't seem to know about the band not appearing as it's still listed on their website. I know it's being advertised around Doncaster and Retford as Nedsdad mentioned it to us last week. Perhaps Eddy better mention it to someone.

Laughing I can't seriously believe they'd even attempt to get off the ground without a female lead vocalist, keyboardist and drummer! They can't miss out such essential components as those!

Thanks for pointing that out Tay! I'll pass that info on to Eddy. Smile Don't suppose the Sound guys are free that night to take the Couch's place are they?!

haha! Very Happy I think the new Couch unofficially finished last October as that was the last time they performed. At the time I think one of the band was due to have an operation so it meant them having a few weeks off anyway but then things kinda drifted along with nothing happening and no word about rehearsing / gigging. Eddy finally decided to officially end it in February, mainly due to him not having much free time to put the Couch's way.

It was not long after that that the idea of the original line up reforming was mooted (as it would have been a shame to see the band die completely) and it turned out that everyone was up for getting back together.

At the moment it's looking like nothing will happen until the back end of this year and even then, it'll only be a handful of gigs anyway. There's no way any of the band have the time to do more than half a dozen gigs throughout the year as Eddy's obviously got his time taken up with Tribfest and the Musicians are pretty much fully booked with their other band. Smile

welcome back tim and the couch! i look forwards to seeing you again. hope its as good as before i recall great nights at the springhead, the king billy, the railway and the cavern.

The Beautiful Sound were approached several times to play the gig tonight at The Sands but unfortunately some of the band are abroad and don't get back until midnight tonight. Unfortunately we had to turn it down but will be returning there early 2010.
