|
|
Spent weeks on editing my films in WMM (Vista) and now I realise they don't work correctly after exporting them.
I export the projects to AVI-format because I need to convert them to .mov later (which I hope is possible!?).
Problem is that every time there is a fade-effect in the project, the finished AVI-movie just "jumps". Doesn't look too great...
Haven't found anything on the web about this. Hope someone here can help...

What were all the source files?
How long are the fades set at in seconds?
Does the movie play fine in the preview window of MM?

1. They are .avi-files.
2. It varies from parts of a second to several sec.
3. Yes.
Thought of another solution: Export them to wmv (which works fine) and then convert the wmv-files to .mov?

1. What sort of avi files?
Currently there are over 800 different ones!!
Use avi codec to find out if you don't know,

You didn't add any other files such as pictures or music?
Saving as wmv and then converting to mov will be fine, but, depending on what your source files are you may find that using a compressed file and then compressing it again to mov will seriously reduce your quality.
Why do you need MOV?
Macs can play wmvs fine with the right software, media play for Mac.

oops, thought DV-AVI in WMM was like a standard file. (I'm pretty new in this).
I did add sound files.
About converting, ok I'll check the qualtiy.
I need MOV because I'm building a large educational website, with movies on it, that will be used by loads (I hope) of users. And I want everything to work easily without having to download plugins.
thanks,

wmv is the default file type in MM.
DV.AVI is the file type you get when capturing from a mini dv tape via firewire if you select it from the drop down list.
Not knowing where your files came from, it could have been that you got them from the internet where divx or xvid avi files are very common.
What are the sound files?
MP3 don't work well in MM, so only use wav/wma/wmv audio.
See this page
http://www.myvideoproblems.com/Tutorials/MovieMaker/File_type_compatibility.htm
The problem you are having is often caused by incompatible file types being used, which is why I was asking about the video file type.
I assume then that the website will be accessed by Mac's? Just wondering why you are using a pc to make the file?
MOV, being an Apple file type is not that compatible, you'll need quicktime installed on all PC's.
Flash players are on nearly every pc and Mac, so if you have a lot of different users with different machines it may pay you to convert to a flash file to upload to the web. If I remember right a survey found about 99% of all computers could play flash without downloading anything.
Otherwise you need to find out whether your main users will have pc's or Macs and plump for the most popular format, wmv for pc and Mov for Mac and then include a link to the player, or if downloading apps is not wanted I'd go for two versions of the movies, one in Mov and the other in WMV.

ok, I'll check my fileformats and see if I can make changes. One option is of course to simply skip the fades. Just spoke to a filmmaker who said she hated fades anyway...
Your views on pc/mac/flash are actually more important. I'm def going to look into the flash-option. Seems like the best solution.
thanks for helping out,
