|
|
HI:
I have transferred multiple segments of many VHS
tapes to DVD's using Pinnacle's Instant DVD REcorder,
which all play well on a stand-alone DVD Player.
However many of them need editing and then combining
them with other clips to make a movie In Moviemaker 2.
When I attempt to transfer (using VirtualDub) the
smaller DVD .VOB files (Video & audio components on
one track together) to an .AVI format, the first file
usually transfers without any problems to an .AVI file.
However, if a larger file (with more than one .VOB file)
is attempted to be transferred, the first, again goes to
.AVI format, but the others (2, 3 4) are problems
(see below).
Sample of a larger instant DVD recorder generated file:
VTS_01_1.VOB [FIRST FILE]
[.99 GB]
VTS_01_2.VOB
[.99 GB]
VTS_01_3.VOB
[.99 GB]
VTS_01_4.VOB
[263MB]
OTHER FILES:
VIDEO_TS.BUP 12 KB
[BACKUP FILE OF THE IFO]
VIDEO_TS.IFO 12 KB
[DVD MOVIE INFO]
VIDEO_TS.VOB 42 KB
[DVD MOVIE]
VTS_01_0.BUP 64 KB
[BACKUP FILE OF THE IFO]
FIRST FILE (.VOB):
FIRST ONE SHOWS UP AS VIDEO & AUDIO WHEN
OPENED IN VIRTUALDUB
SECOND THRU FOURTH FILES:
OPENS WITH SPLIT SCREEN (IN VIRTUALDUB)
[2 IMAGES THE SAME ON SCREENS NEXT TOGETHER]
-ADD PANASONIC DV CODEC:
VIDEO CODEC INFORMATION:
DELTA FRAMES: NO
FOURCC CODE 'dvsd'
(VALID DEPTHS: 16 24)
DO FILTERS:
-ADD RE-SIZE:
GET SIZE OPTIONS:
ABSOLUTE (PIXELS) 352 X 480
RELATIVE (%) 100 X 100
FILE MODE: PRECISE BICUBIC (A=0.75)
FRAMING OPTIONS:
CHECKED: DO NOT LETTERBOX OR CROP
CODEC-FRIENDLY SIZING:
CHECKED: DO NOT ADJUST
CLICK : SAVE AS .AVI FILE
GET MESSAGE:
"CANNNOT START VIDEO COMPRESSION
THE SOURCE IMAGE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE
(ERROR CODE -2)"
------------------------
IN OTHER MULTIPLE .VOB'S FILES:
CLICKING ON #1 (opens default video viewer),
GET VIDEO & AUDIO
[ABOUT 1/3 OF TOTAL TRACK]
CLICKING ON THE OTHER 3 .VOB'S GETS EITHER:
-ONLY AUDIO--NO VIDEO
OR
DISTORTED VIDEO & GOOD AUDIO
I EMPHASIZE THAT ALL THESE .VOB FILES PLAY
WELL ON A STAND-ALONE DVD PLAYER.
OTHER DATA:
WIN XP WITH SP-2
RAM = 1 GIG
VIDEO MEMORY = 64 MB
[RECENTLY UPDATED]
CPU = 2.4 GHz
HARD DRIVES:
-ONE AT 20 GIGS
-SECOND AT 200 GIGS
DVD-BURNER DRIVE = "D"
HAS PLEXITOR SOFTWARE WITH A
RECENT FIRMWARE UPDATE
I also have Roxio Easy Media Creator Suite 10
and Adobe Premier Elements 4, if I need to use
them.
ARE THE ROXIO CODEC'S OF ANY VALUE??
(You have to special order them online at their
site for about $15)
Help would be appreciated.
Thanks |

Make sure all your temp made files etc go to your large drive.
Viwing a fileis totally diferent to editing an/or converting, whereas you can often watch a corrupt file you cannot edit/convert it.
Adobe premiere elements 4 should be able to edit the vobs directly, so try importing them into that programme.
Try converting the vobs to wmv using wiows media encoder to see if that works.

Thank you for you quick reply.
I downloaded & installed the Windows Media Encoder.
I followed your directions to using it, but I do not know
which choice for Video & Audio to choose--VBR or CBR??
When I choose the VBR for both, I get the following
info below that:
BIT RATE:
TOTAL BIT RATE: 2073 KBPS
FRAME RATE: 29.97 FPS
OUTPUT SIZE 640 X 480
Which choice is correct??
Again, thanks |

It's a choice you have to make on content of the movie. Lots of fast action would benefit from vbr, whereas child playing on beach or a head shot with little movement would be fne with cbr _________________ Working far too hard to keep you lot happy to be worrying about when to have the next party
