My Video Problems

Hi; maybe someone here can help me out. I am having a lot of problems getting my downloaded video clips to play on my Liteon LVW1105 DVD player this started about a month ago and before that I didn't have any problems. I use as my burning platform Nero 8 Ultra and for converting video files AVS4You video 6.1. I like to download Adult stuff and now for some reason this has been closed to me.
The files are usually in wmv format and I convert them to avi format which my dvd recorder allows, Nero burns the CD-R alright but when I try to playback the video it just doesn't show up. I usually burn these files as data disks not DVDs. I've also tried Movie Maker and just made a movie using the files I converted but again no luck with Liteon I have downloaded the most up to date codexs it think and have tried some other things. Could the problem be with the XP adminstator some form of censorship? I am not too computer literate and so this is fairly incoheriant to you. Please if you can help out I would be most appreciative. There are over 800 different types of avi files, you probably need divx.
If I was making a dvd to watch, I'd make a std dvd-video disc, nero will do this for you.
There is no censorship turned on in XP, so you may have changed any of the settings.
