Hi
Old Sony HI8 camcorder died and just bought Sony TRV255E digital 8 with the idea to transfer old tapes to imovie.
Two problems
- the trv255e plays and records fine onto digital8 tape but doesn't play hi8 or 8mm tapes.
- imovie doesn't see the camcorder either.
Should have checked here before buying on ebay!
I also read in the Sony manual that it can record to 8mm hi8 and digital 8 tapes but not play back tapes already recorded in the hi8 format
So, either I but old hi8 camcorder and transfer to the mac via my sony minidv cancorder using the a to d converter or could someone give me some tips what to do?
We have loads of tapes and need to sit down and play them before deciding if to transfer or not. |

Two options.
1. Check through the old simplydv forum, which is back on line for reading only, and see which digital 8 cams do play back 8mm/hi8 tapes, buy one and use this and sell on the other.
2. Buy hi8 cam and use with the sony as you say.
