|
|
OK, so my latest project with Windows Movie Maker, is to edit a rough concert recording I've got on a data DVD and put it on a video DVD. A couple of problems:
1) It appears as a set of 13 files on the DVD I've got - 4 VOB files, 4 BUP files and 4 IFO files and one that says "default pls". To play the videos in Windows Media Player, I just click the VOB files - I don't know what the others do! How do I put this into Movie Maker and turn it into proper video (if you see what I mean - you might notice I'm not that technically knowledgeable!).
2) The sound is mono and only plays out of one speaker. Is there anything I can do to make it play out of both? Also, I have some of it recorded in stereo on CD. I guess it's easy to add that, but how do I synchronise sound with picture most accurately? And what if there's a slight difference in speed - can that be adjusted?
If anybody can help, I'd be really grateful. |

The files you say you have indicate you have a std dvd-video disc, not a data disc.
The vobs are the movie files, ifo are information files giving details of menu etc and bup files are backup movie files.
Movie maker does not work with vobs, you need to convert them to wmv files to edit.
Rename the vob as a .mpg and use windows media encoder to convert them.
You can add the cd music, so long as it is a wav file into MM and sync audio to audio quite easily by expanding the timeline view, +magnifying glass top left of timeline.

| Thanks for the reply Skierhughes. I did what you suggested, but the resulting wmv file comes without any sound. Even stranger, it says the clip is 3:09 (when it is in fact about 1 hour 3 minutes long or so) and plays 1 minute odd in media player before going black! The mpg file registers as 40 seconds, but keeps on playing for a while after that, but also stops well after a minute or so. However, if I click a way along the Windows Media Player "timeline" it takes me to a more advanced part of the video and plays from there and then starts jumping about and then goes dark again. Depending where I click I get different bits of the video. The same happens on Movie Maker which recognises it as 40 seconds and shows a different 40 seconds depending where I click. Changing the original file back to a VOB file it plays OK in Media Player, showing the full time (plus a list of chapters in the sidebar). In Movie Maker it still is only recognised as a 40 second clip. |

How was the dvd made?
With a dvd recorder?
These make a vob of lots of mpegs, so if the first mpeg is only 40 seconds long then when you rename the vob to mpeg it will only show the first 40 seconds.
I'm afraid there are only two ways round this, either;
A video editor that will edit vobs in their natural state, look at adobe premiere elements or ulead video studio.
or
a converter to convert vobs to their seperate mpegs. If you google dvd ripping software and search for dvd decryptor then youcan do this without spending money. _________________ Working far too hard to keep you lot happy to be worrying about when to have the next party

| Many thanks for your replies. This is a great site. I was planning on getting Adobe Premiere Elements, so I guess that's the next step. |
