Hello,
I created a movie in windows movie maker(that plays back perfectly on the computer). I did save it in NTSC/avi format and made sure the fps rate was 30. The final files were video ts and audio ts files. I checked it in gspot and it shows 29fps and all codecs installed. I added the effect of slowed down motion in quite a few of the clips. I also added music some of which is quite fast. It seems to be either the slow motion effect or the audio that is causing set top dvd player to hang and skip..what would be a good way to narrow it down?? The book type is set to dvd-rom so it does play. Plays perfect in old windows classic media player. the set top unit cannot seem to handle it.

I'm afraid this is a common problem with dvd players and the only way to narrow it down is trial and error with a bit of research.
Read the manual to see what types of dvds work best with it.
Try another make of disc.
Burn slowly
don't use too high a bitrate
use lpcm or ac3 audio on your dvd.

As the dvd plays on your pc you've made it right, it just isn't compatible with your set top box.

The lpcm or ac3 audio choice will be found in the dvd authoring software, you haven't said which you used.
The third choice is mpeg and this often causes problems.

You are probably gonna think I'm stupid but I just made the movie in WMM and saved it as an NTSC avi file. The audio and video were already encoded by windows movie maker when i burned the DVD with cucusoft avi to dvd software and another time I used the Nero 6 express software to burn to dvd(the audio ts and video ts files). Checked the movie in GSpot and it shows audio as mpeg-1 layer 2. The DVD was burned as mpeg-2 from the video ts folder. Fairly new at this but making progress just the fine points are what I need. I didnt think you could author something different than what WMM created.

movie maker makes an avi file.
A dvd needs vob files to play.
These vob files are wrapped up mpeg2 files.
The audio in the vob can be lpcm/dolby digital ac3 or mpeg.

You have mpeg audio, this is not that compatible, see if you can choose lpcm by looking at the help files or checking the makers web site for tutorials.

The file MM makes changes considerably, an hour of dv.avi is 13gb, an hour of mpeg2 for your dvd is about 4gb!!!

SUCCESS!! Thanks Skier Huges...I was not including enough of the Video TS folder...I was only including some files and not the information files. Also when I used the AC3 video that made a big difference. I now have my vacation videos on dvd that will play on just about every set top dvd player I tried it on. Your suggestions worked perfect just needed to be pointed in right direction...again thanks....
