I have had my laptop since Boxing Day of last year and found Ulead DVD MovieFactory on it, which was ace. I had been looking for a programme that could convert my .avi files to a watchable format and be able to view it on my DVD player for ages. I had tried about 10 others which none would work. But not, for some reason, it won't do it. It would normally take about 4hours for the UMM to make the file smaller and put it onto a disc. Now, it goes for about 2hours and then stops and says something like "failed to burn to disc". This is rather annoying. Can anyone offer any help on how to fix it?

Also, I tried using Windows DVD Maker, and when I click burn after about 5secs it stops and says "Widows DVD Maker has stopped working" and then it says it's looking for a solution but nothing happens. I have absolutely no idead why neither are not working. If anyone can offer help that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I'm afraid it could be one or more of several problems.
As two programmes fail to burn it could be a problem with the burner, incompatible discs, wrong burn speed, faulty/poor quality discs or a problem with the programmes which may be caused by other programmes that have been installed.
Check this first to see if anything has changed with the burner,

Will the burner burn a data disc?
Then try another make of disc.
