I am capturing video from my mini DV tapes. They are saving as .avi files. Everytime I try to publish them, it starts up and works for a few minutes, then the laptop just shuts down. I tried to publish one 15 times before it finally went the whole way and created a full .wmv file.
I updated everything on my Toshiba Satillite laptop as told by Toshiba support and updated the BIOS files. I turned off all the filters on the tool/options tab. I also tried shutting down a CPU in the Task Manager, affinity setting.
Now that one has published I know the computer can do it, this just needs to be more consistant. Please provide any suggestions.
Thanks! |

Which version of windows?
What are the laptop specs?
Any particular reason for saving as wmv?
What wmv settings are you using?
What happens if you try to save as dv.avi?
What happens if you choose one of the highly compressed versions of wmv such as for pocket pc?

Graham,
I am new to this so bare with me on tech stuff please! Here are the specs.
Toshiba Satellite Laptop
P105 S6711
120 GB hard drive
2 GB RAM
Windows Home Premium Ver 6 SP1
I don't see where I have any choices on the type of file I create. I only said wmv because the first tape I captured and published created it that way. It appears to be compressed considerably from the original captured file which was 8GB and the wmv turn out to be 366mb.
I will save it any way you suggest. Please tell me how to select the different versions and I will try.
Thank you so much for answering my post. |

Graham - are you still available? I keep trying with no luck and lots of cups of tea!
I also tried our Roxio software and was able to make a dv avi file but it made it larger, now it is 12G. That will not work, but it did complete without shutting down, well it did once and then when I tried again it worked.
Still hoping you can come up with something. |
