I have a Panasonic NV-G27, which I have previously captured video from with no problem via Firewire connection.

Now, though, all the capture programs I have (Movie Star, Windows Movie Maker and Nero) recognise, and can control the camcorder via firewire, but the video captured is just moving colour pixel blocks.

I cannot think of any obvious reason for this, except perhaps it is XP prof. SP3 related.

Has anyone any suggestions as to the reason, and a work round?

Thanks

What does it look like on the camcorder screen?
What if you play it directly through a tv?
If the same the heads most likely need cleaning, or they may be damaged.
If it's ok, then I'd first look at changing the firewire cable, but you could beg/steal/borrow a cam/pc and cable that you KNOW owrks and test all your three items to see what if anything is faulty.

Sorry about delay in getting back.

Camcorder plays back ok on screen, and when on TV when played via RGB output.

I have tried a different firewire cable, and it made no difference.

HOWEVER on one occasion it did record to the PC ok, but I haven't been able to repeat it since.

Ok it sound slike a problem witha connection somewhere, which might just be a dodgy fit, so wiggling a cable might help, but it may mean replacing something, so it's time to beg steal borrow that cam/cable and pc that you can see working in fornt of you and swap your pieces over one by one and see what combination works and what doesn't.
