Has anyone had any experience with the very newly released Avid Express Pro for the Intel Macs?
I am windows based at the moment but thinking seriously of defecting but the reported bugs and the lack of support by Avid with Apple worries me a little. I've heard tales of Firewire ports not working and bits and bobs not being recognised by Avid. I love Apple's software with the exception of Final Cut Pro where Avid is far better for me, so I'm after the best of both worlds.
I don't suppose Xpress DV 4 would work at all on the Intel Macs. I haven't looked into it, just a thought...I assumed not. _________________ Intel Mac Pro Dual core 3.0GHZ : 3GB Ram, Avid Xpress Pro HD 5.7 and Windows based P4 2GB Ram with Avid Xpress DV 4.3 ; Sony PD170 and Sony A1E HDV backup camera ; Glidecam 2000 pro |

I'm using FCExpress HD on a PPC Mac at the moment, and this will be the case (obviously) until I upgrade to an Intel Mac, which I intend to do very soon. I haven't heard anything adverse though.

Sales people tell me that one of the differences between Mac and PC is that PC's are much more easily upgraded and repaired. Repairing a Mac will cost twice as much in labour and parts whereas you'll always find a guy in a garage willing to tinker with your PC for you. There is also little to no difference in terms of processing speed, power or stability between Macs and PC's these days.
Have you found those things to be the case with Mac? Would you ever go back to PC and if not why not? _________________ Intel Mac Pro Dual core 3.0GHZ : 3GB Ram, Avid Xpress Pro HD 5.7 and Windows based P4 2GB Ram with Avid Xpress DV 4.3 ; Sony PD170 and Sony A1E HDV backup camera ; Glidecam 2000 pro |

But would you trust your ferrari to any old guy working from home to mend?
Use a specialist pc repairer and it'll cost the same as repairing a Mac.
The problem and good thing with pc's is the availability of parts.. so much choice you can have whatever you want, so much choice you can have nightmares with compatibility.
