I am still short of a few people to help out next Sunday (setting up Saturday is covered) - I could do with 5 ideally, minimum 2 more people. The confirmed names I have of volunteers are as follows:
me, Ellie, Ian, Darren, Alex, Celia, Steve P, Julia W, Fiona M, Jim, Roger D, Steve R-S, Mike L-C, Terry & Les (plus others from outside the club: Jane Jones, Chris & Martin E-T, Anne Hewitson, Pratibha Kanse & Vicky).
Please give me a ring on 07766 911069 - there are LOADS of club members who are not racing and who have yet to volunteer!! _________________ Knee operation done, I'm back on the road to beating Darren again. |

Really enjoyed the event. Am only just over a month into recovery from ankle reconstruction surgery and I'd set this as a target for myself.
Came up the day before staying in the Cleddau Bridge hotel (who incidentally were very accommodating regarding my bike and my request for a late checkout so I could pop back after the event).
Went over on Saturday for a reccy (signs were going up as I was driving it) and to preregister. All was dealt with very well by your organisers.
However not being out on the bike other than on a turbo and not having used my clipless pedals before I was a little nervous about being able to complete the initial climb and following a sleepless night worrying I was almost on the verge of pulling out. So glad in the end that I didn't!
Really enjoyed the atmosphere and had lots of people chatting to me and my nerves were soon settled. Really enjoyed the run and managed a decent enough time for me especially as I was taking it easy knowing the hill was to come. The cycle was well marshalled given the numbers out on the track and as usual the support around the course, although limited, always helps you get around. Traffic was well behaved on the fast section at the top and I think I only had one car pass me on the hilly section. One thing - can you get that road tarmacced as I think I rattled half my teeth loose on the way back down!
Back though transition - and I'd say this was my only gripe - the people either side of me were a lot quicker and by the time I got back their bikes were racked and I had no room for mine, had to move theirs either side just to get in. I'd say ideally you needed to leave a bit more room between bikes on the racks.
Below I've broken down my timings from my forerunner and if it helps it shows the distances were pretty much bang on (cycle would probably be right too if I'd hugged the 4 roundabouts tightly). I say this because my wife overheard some marshalls debating whether the distances were accurate.

It's good to know that the distances are so accurate. That means last year I set a pb for 5k!! _________________ www.triexercise.co.uk |

Both the runs have been accurately measured to/from the top of the slope down into transition, and the bike course was measured using a Garmin. Point taken about bike racking, although the space allocated was over the guideline amount it is unfortunate that in their panic some athletes don't take care to re-position their bikes and leave enough space for the people either side of them when they re-rack! _________________ Knee operation done, I'm back on the road to beating Darren again. |

Hi Guys
A great race yesterday, its a smashing course. Both runs fast & flat. the bike a nice steady climb , those undulations on the circuit at the top were really good. The fast return was great fun, if a little rough.
My only point was the steep entry & exit to transition. I'm not skilled enough to have my shoes clipped to the bike & climbing out and coming back into transition with look cleats was a litle dodgy, thankfully it wasn't wet. Have you tried an old carpet or something to give a bit of grip?
Great location, great fun - on my list for next year. |

Hi Slugs,
Thanks for the feedback - glad you enjoyed it. We did have old carpet on standby in case it was wet, but didn't feel it was necessary in the dry conditions. We'll review this again for next year. The real answer though is to learn how to get your feet out before dismounting!!!! Trust me it's quite easy when you've mastered it.
Regards,
Dave. _________________ Knee operation done, I'm back on the road to beating Darren again. |
