Kalimera sas from Athens, where we are directly experiencing the joys (ha ha ha, she laughs dryly) of a National Strike! Stuck at the toooo expensive airport hotel (thankfully a lovely travel agent arranged a transfer for us to a family run hotel on the water 10 minutes from here.. for 1/4 the cost of the sofitel, which is fleecing the public in need, as we speak)
No taxis, no buses, no metro - no getting to the city center at all... we had to leave Skiathos a day early as we had heard (thanks to Mike) of the pending severity of the strike - wouldn't have made it off the island! Or at the least, from Volos....
So - not only did we have to cut our precious time in Paradise a day short, we will not have our full day and night in London to spend with Yvonne... Sad

More about our AMAZING time on Skiathos in winter, and all of the AMAZING and warm, hospitable people we spent time with, new friends, lovely and very dramatic pictures.... (when was Greece ever NOT dramatic??? Smile

- later... meta. Soon. I will say that if you are looking for excitement, lots of people, the usual tourist tavernas and bars, it is not the place for you in winter. if you are looking for peace, quiet, magic, cold winds and good company... go!

Quite an effective strike by all accounts - Nothing moving at all, Banks, Transport, Airports and Government all closed.

I heard on the radio this morning, that the Italians are on strike too, queues at the borders and ports (Keep an eye on this one Darrell)
