Little Banana I would say is favourate .
By July there will be very few all over tanners on Big Banana which will no doubt be overflowing with young Greek & Italian sun worshippers in their designer gear who frown on beach nudity..
Or you could rent a boat and head for one of the many uninabited beaches scattered around the island _________________ http://www.pro-tecmotorsport.com |

One of the best beaches on the island, IMHO, apart from being able to go naturist, if that's your thing is Elias, on the Mandraki peninsula.
It's either a 20 minute walk from a bus stop (so I'm told) or hire a car or bike, park on the Agistros/Elias peninsula, and walk down the cliff.
Quiet beach, no poseurs, loads of space, and a really great taverna for lunch.
Ask if you want more specific details, or search on this board, where you'll find all you need to know.

| HI. THE ONLY NUDIST BEACH IS LITTLE BANANA ON THE ISLAND. THIS IS NOT UPHELD AT THE MOMENT BUT HOPEFULLY WILL BE AGAIN IN THE FUTURE AS LAST YEAR WE WENT TO OVER 10 BEACHES AND ALL HAD NUDISTS ON ONE END OR THE OTHER. WE GUIDE THE BOAT TRIPS ROUND THE ISLAND AND IN BAD WEATHER WERE FORCED TO PULL INTO ABELAKIA NEXT TO KOUK. WE HAD CHILDREN ON BOARD AND WERE MET BY A LARGE LADY WITH NO CLOTHES ON ASKING US WHAT WE WERE PLAYING AT BRINGING CHILDREN ONTO A NUDIST BEACH WITH WHICH I POINTED OUT THAT IS WAS NOT A NUDIST BEACH AND THAT IT WAS HER BREAKING THE LAW, ALSO WE INFORM THE GUESTS THAT ELIAS ( MANDRAKI ) ON THE LEFT SIDE AS YOU FACE THE SEA THAT THE WATER IS VERY SHALLOW AND IS GREAT FOR TAKING CHILDREN TO. BUT YOU CAN GUESS LAST YEAR THE OLD WRINKLYS AS WE CALL THEM WERE THERE ASWELL. THIS IS A FAMILY ISLAND AND IS NOT KNOWN AS A NUDIST DESTINATION AND WE WANT TO KEEP IT THAT WAY. |

I have to agree with Deco & Tezza, our beaches are for the majority.
Nudism is illegal in Greece and is only tolerated by the authorities.
If people wish to flash at the public I suggest they go to Clapham common or buy a house with an enclosed garden and 'Expose away'
Please remember, public decency laws are there for a reason. |

| Oh dear, but this thread seems to have awakened some intolerance and prejudice. Dislike of naturists doesn't seem to stop tourist boat owners from coming in as close as possible to Little Banana so that their passengers can get a good look. Where is the concern for the children then? Does this mean that Skiathos doesn't want naturists, but voyeurs are OK? |

I've been going to Skiathos - and hanging out NAKED on various beaches - for 20 something years now. We have local friends who have no problem with that IF we are respectful, IF we are discreet and IF we put clothing on when suddenly other folks (especially children) show up on a beach we are on that is not designated clothing optional.
What used to be known as Little Banana, the beach to the far left of Banana as you look to sea, before the round the rocks folks to the right decided that their beach was 'Little Banana', has for well over 20 years been known - by locals too - as the nudist beach. Some people are arrogant and stupid about their own nudity, without regard for the feelings of others...that is simply put, unkind and rude.
But if someone who lives on Skiathos doesn't yet know that many people come there and give the island their money, because they have the luxury of spending time on holiday on a beach and in the water without being hampered by clothing, well... where the heck have you been????
You take those people's money, don't you?
You don't tell them to leave, I don't ever see the local police (who have nothing to do anyway) doing nudie patrol on beaches that are either designated, or are remote.
If we're on a beach - anywhere - that isn't necessarily deemed a nudie beach, and NO one else is around, we refuse to wear clothing. Period. I will not go into the beautiful Aegean sea with clothing on if I can help it!!! Sorry Tezza, or anyone else...
However, we will not force our preference on anyone, else and will go elsewhere to be naked if we must, rather than risk offending people.
That said - yes, the tourist boats ALWAYS have great fun - even with children aboard - coming close to shore at Banana on their way around the island, back to town. Don't they? Tooting their horns, yelling, whooping.
(even the bigger blue boat, even 'little loud George's' boat... and the old Sporades Express... the ONLY boat I have seen just quietly slip up onto shore there, with no fuss or fanfare, amidst all the nudies to let people OFF to join the fun, was Thimios...)
Doesn't seem to offend them much!

| Hi all that was said is that little banana is the only nudist beach and as pointed out if you want to go naked then this is the beach to go to..tweed you sound like you want to take your clothes off were ever. you have a beach you can go to so dont use a family one.. last year as said went to over 10 beaches with nudist on and this is out of order.. yes elle as you say the police dont have a lot to do and do not enforce the law as regards nudism but should. last year on tsougria we were there with friends and a nudist was walking up and down in front of us and even came over to 1 of us as we were sat down asking for a light use your imagination is this not way out of order. and on the lighter side why do all the old wrinklies stand on the waters edge turning one way then the other.. please please and i know i speak on behalf of many stick to little banana, or big if you can measure up... |

In response to Tezza, I cannot agree more.
In response to Elle, we do live here yes, by choice. We do not however rely on money from anyone, your thread makes it sound as though money makes up for any behaviour and because you are paying you can do as you please. We thought we had left this sort of arrogance behind when we came here.
If it not accepted behaviour in your own back yard why is it deemed acceptable in ours?
I do not understand why the police do not enforce the law either. I am neither ofended by nor predjusiced against nudity, illegality however angers me. The law is the law. We have to adhere to many - it is called society.
In respect to where, there is a nice beach which is accepted to allow naturism, why not stick to it and allow everyone else the freedom to relax with their families. |

In response to woodmonkey...
I am a bit too old for you to give me a spanking. And I venture to guess that you are old enough to read what I wrote and make sense of it, rather than rubbish.
But I did NOT intend to offend you - or anyone! I am sorry if I did.
We don't go to Skiathos to 'do what we want' - to run amuck naked, to drink until we puke, to ignore the locals or eat Indian food... we come to nurture friendships made over time that mellow like good wine - we love the people, the sea, the local boats, the peace and quiet, the Greek food and drink and dance, the ritual, the holidays, now we love the winter, and yes, we LOVE to swim in the amazing Aegean sea, either on Banana or an EMPTY beach somewhere - stark naked.
What I MEANT in my post was that yes, many, many travelers to Skiathos go there BECAUSE it has been written up - for 30 years - as a naturist island. Banana Beach has been sloshed all over the pages of just about every guide book, as a nude beach, for just about that long.
Many people go to Skiathos, pay a lot of money for a lovely holiday there, for the privilege of letting it all hang out on a sanctioned, nude beach.
I certainly cannot speak for those who think that it is OK to just flaunt it, wherever, no matter what, no matter who is around.
They were not housebroken by their parents, I suppose.
I never said that I do what I want, that money makes up for any behavior and I can do as I please. Please, do NOT put your words in my mouth!!!
We've been visiting the island for a long time and have nothing BUT respect for the people who live there - Greeks, mostly as it is their island. I do take exception when an American or a Brit, or anyone NOT Greek, tells me what to do - in a country they happen to live in, but is not theirs to begin with.
Especially if they do not speak the language. (I am not pointing at ANYONE in particular here... but there are an awful lot of transplants who speak little or no Greek at all, who don't know any locals at all other than the neighborhood bar keep or someone who can perform some sort of service for them, and yet who think that they are King or Queen and what they say goes, simply because the island has been graced by their presence.)
If a Greek tells me what's what, I listen. Respectfully. The locals (Greek) that we know and have known for years tell us that nudity is OK if you stick to the nude beach, or if you are very discreet. And respectful of others. That is pretty simple. It harms no one.
Sadly, though, not everyone will abide by the rule of common sense.
If we are not on Banana but are on some other remote beach and no one else is there, we WILL go bare bum naked - If someone shows up, the clothes go back on or we'll go over the rocks.
I'm sorry if you don't like this, but I can venture a guess that you and a naked me have never met on any beach on the island anytime over the last 22 years.
So this is probably all just a moot point.
Personally, I would rather run into a pleasant, peaceful, wrinkly nude than a loud, rude, drunken sot and that is about what most of the clothed beaches tend to be about. _________________ "If you want others to be happy, practice compassion.

Elle - sorry to read that you seem to be visiting Skiathos earlier than we are this year - would like to have heard you sing maybe in one of the bars having listened, via a link on here, to some of your songs - very nice they were too. |
