Are there 2 beaches on Tsougria? We took a little boat from the town harbout over to one (the one with the ginormous bees it put me off a bit but no one else seems to have seen them so is there another one there? Also I heard that there was a beach with music playing though large speakers, apparently George Harrison wanted to buy it in the 60s but the monks wouldn't sell, can someone enlighten me or was someone pulling my leg? |

yes, there's a 2nd beach but no taverna on it this year, unless it's been gotten up since mid June... last year there was, and it was lovely, playing Miles Davis and Cuban salsa, eerie spacey vibe music... now it's just the goats and thousands of tourists from some of the boats, leaving the beach littered with cig butts.
The beatles tried to buy it - thank goodness someone was smart enough to leave it be! I believe it is about 3/4 owned by the Evagalistria Monastery and 1/4 an Athenian businesswoman (Mike, someone who knows... true?) ... they'll hopefully never come to an agreement re: selling, so much the better for us!!!
(lets hope I do NOT eat my words....)

I did like Tsougria but the bees put me off (my phobia) well, wasps are my biggest phobia really but anything that flies and stings But anyone else that's been to Tsougria never seems to have seen them, was I seeing things? Or are they only there sometimes? We hired a boat last year, went over to the island but didn't go on the beach. Are there any other little islands like it that you can go for the day with a little taverna? (and NO bees!) |

There were very few bees/wasps last year. The taverna had disposable wasp traps suspended from the ceiling and they seemed to be very effective. I wouldn't let it put you off going because it is such a beautiful beach - my favourite.
