Ah well, as some of you know we were awaiting my daughters A'level results with trepidation, she was convinced of failure Surprised but she got her first choice of University Very Happy and now we will be broke for ever as I am sure many of you will no doubt warn me. Having hoped for 2 or 3 trips to Skiathos next year, will we now have any pennies left. Crying or Very sad I hope so as we will now have a taste of freedom wont we once she has left home Wink

Anyone else had some great results from their kids ? Celebrating tonight. Cool

Hi Diamond

Ah, juicy Lucy moves on to the next phase of her life.

Congratulations and well done. Despite all the negative media stuff about exam results, it takes loads of hard work.

What's she studying? With parents like you it must be music?!

Friends who have kids at University tell me the worry doubles and the need for cash becomes unimaginable. Oh the joys of parenting!!

So, Skiathos may become a luxury 'coz of the cost? Well, here's a tip. Student loans. They'll buy you many a flight!

Once again, well done that woman.

Guy

Which university will she be going to? We are waiting for GCSE results next Thursday. Waiting for A levels must be much worse! Congrats to her and good luck.

Ha ha Guy - not music - "Leisure Marketing" at Bournemouth University but could end up in the music industry I suppose.

Student loans !! Crying or Very sad her debt, not ours !! We will help as much as we can, but would never do without our holidays in Skiathos especially now with so much freedom Laughing

Good luck next week Pandy with GCSE's. I remember giving our daughter an incentive to work hard for those. So much per grade ... 'A' was something like £50, 'B' £30 and worked down. Cost us a bloody fortune but boy, did she work ! She took us to the cleaners Crying or Very sad

Yep our daughter got her 2Cs that she needed, but she is deferring her place till next year as she wants to take a gap year this year. She is going to go to Derby to study Outdoor recreation and Adventure Tourism.

Son gets his GCSE re-sit results next Thursday. Good luck to one and all waiting for their results, and well done to all those hard working A-Level students.

Hi Diamond, yes very well thanks. Glad the A-levels are all over and done with now. Am sure Charlotte will enjoy her gap year, not sure what she is going to do at the moment, possibly a trip to Australia to see her cousin, but we are taking her with us to Kos for a week in October.

Hi Diamond and Caroleann, say congratulations to the kids from us. Being "in the trade" we know how difficult A levels are. Good luck to Alex for next week. My daughter was one of the first to have a student loan, hard to believe it was 10 years ago.

Hi Bill and Gill - thanks for the kind words. Yes, of course - you must feel a sense of achievement when all the kids are so happy Laughing

Bill Gill, thanks, she found Y13 so hard, and it didn't help when one of her teachers was off sick for long periods of time. She was all ready to pack her A-levels in with about 6 weeks to go before the exams. So glad she didn't Very Happy

Couldnt agree more Orley. I wasnt bothered if my daughter went to Uni or not. Never held me back. You just want what they want and cant bear to see them disappointed. If you have a skill, use it. As long as they are happy, we are Laughing If I am honest, I would rather she wasnt going to end up with a £30,000 debt. Crying or Very sad

Too true! We realise that now so it will be so much easier (I hope) when my next one finishes his exams and decides what path to take. At least he got good results and has an option if it doesn't work out. I mean, how many of us have ended up on the path we started to take when we were 17?
