I am here.... and how happy I am. Skiathos is lovely - until today the weather held up (I've only been here since Thurs but it feels an eternity) - beaches a bit dirty, some tav's not yet open, but NO jellyfish tht I can see! The sea is perfect on a hot day. Spent all night last night at Athos taverna in town, amazing music, local and tourist Greeks dancing and singing the night away... even some of the burly, aging local Boatmen were there, singing and dancing like little agile ballerinas, leaping and crouching, spinning and hitting their feet. Dancing the mournful, passionate solo dance of the men... women soing the same, taking turns with the men. I was in heaven.
But today - WOW WOW WOW! It was cloudy ion the AM, talk of a bit of wind and rain and then suddenly the whole palio limani got emptied of caiques, big and small... all evacuated to the new harbor, as the wind came up as though John Cassavette's character in the film, The Tempest, was out there calling to the Gods. HUGE waves just crashing over the quay, some up and over to the tavernas that had buttoned themselves up tight for the last of the Greek tourists... Some boats have gone to sea and some of the fishing boats are still in harbor by the fish market, riding it out with help from all of the men.
Amazing. I've never seen this, in the warmer months. Got some great pics.
Anyway - Skiathos is LOVELY, wind, rain or whatever.. I AM in heaven!

Just took a look on the webcam, its a southerly gale and can do a lot of damage, So it will be a bit lively in the old harbour and by the marina ...
