It was last year, Dave.
We ate there when it first opened & I wasn't too impressed with the food (I'm a bit of an Indian food snob). However - I have a feeling that they didn't have an Indian chef at first but I heard that that they have now.
Have you been to the one at Kouk....we've never tried that one. (A bit criminal, eating Indian on a Greek island really, isn't it? ) |

I won't bore you with a long story, but the Bombay Garden is run by my wife's uncle.
We first went in 2005, and then again last year, I know that they have had an Indian chef for those two years.
Sounds that I'm like yourself, I prefer to eat local food when I am on holiday, so I wouldn't through choice go to Greece and have an Indian or Chinese, or pizza for that matter.
But it is the only time that the wife gets to see her uncle and his wife, and to be fair they have been very good to us when we have gone to visit them. There were some rumours that they might not be going back this year so I was hoping that someone might know if it has re-opened.
Like many people we have now fallen in love with Skiathos and hope to go again this year. |

I remember when we went in 2003, there was an English lady who seemed to be managing the place (greeting diners & sorting the bills etc.) but they had Indian waiters.
We have lived on Indian food for many years & about a year ago we laid off it (wife being on diet & I'd lost the taste for it). Last year was the first year that we really enjoyed our Greek meals. Just goes to show that we'd been totally dependent on spicy food.
Had a takeaway this week, first time in ages & I must admit, I really enjoyed it. I'll never go back to having the stuff every week though. |

| Hi Dave, we were told a few years ago that The Bombay Garden was run by someone from Scunthorpe, just across the lovely River Humber from us, don't know if this was right. Would this be your wife's uncle? |

Hi Graham & Caroline,
Correct, he was originally from a place called Broughton, nr Scunthorpe. He was a builder by trade, then they ran a pub in Brigg. They sold up and moved out there about 5 or 6 years ago.
The wife comes from Hull, which I assume is where you are. |

When we arrived at the airport last Sept and picked up our hire car, our luggage was carried to the car by, I guess it was their son, who told us his M&D ran the Indian Restaurant and they were from Scunthorpe.. _________________ Roll on 2009! |

It wasn't open last week, but then a number of places weren't, (Mouria, Twilight etc.). It looked like a couple of guys were repairing and painting some of the hardware. It seemed to us that they were readying to open shortly.
Never eaten there so can't comment on the food or service.
Best curry I've had recently was in 2002 in Puerto Rico, Grand Canaria, the people running it were from Birkenhead. _________________ Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream.

I remember you mentioned that last year....I'd love to know who they were. Haven't ventured into Birkenhead for a night out in years. It's like Deliverance these days. |

I don't remember more about them then above.
What I do remember is being pretty fed up with the typical fare in Puerto Rico and persuaded my wife to try a curry. When I suggested a while later that we have another curry, she was very keen!
Puerto Rico for two weeks at the end of May is hard going. _________________ Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream. |

| They usually open at the beginning of June...IMHO it is better than your average Indian takeaway as it doesn't rely on Mrs. Patak's sauces which most Indian restaurants in the UK use. Also he usually flies in a couple of chefs from India and again. most Indian restaurants are run by Pakistanis or Bengalis in the UK! |
