I'm off to Skiathos in a weeks time and am staying at hotel esperides, achalides bay. Ive read a fair few reviews about the hotel and its a fairly mixed feeling. However i was wondering what excursions there are? Myself, my boyfriend his 15 yr old son and the in laws are going along with brother in law, wife and child. Do you thinkSkiathos will be ok for us?
Any advice greatly appreciated.
It looks beautiful by the way from all the photos on here.
Bit nervous about the flight too but looked a vids of that too and feel much better |

Most of the excursions are boat trips, either around the island to beaches that are inaccessible by road, or to neighbouring islands such as Skopelos & Alonyssus.
There's a little taxi-boat that leaves your hotel for the town harbour every hour. That's a nice alternative to squashing on the bus. Only a euro each as well. |

Not sure about the weather, there seem to have been mixed reports. Not much we can do about it anyway
Landing is great.

Hello, welcome!
I don't know what is wrong with the webcam at the moment. It's demise is the source of endless grief to many here, hopefully back soon.
Generally, the weather by now has stabilised to good, but the situation has been odd this year. When we were there a few weeks back, the locals we know all had much the same story, "there has been no winter".
17th May the weather changed to quite cold and very wet, but it improved the following week. There was then another big blow, but that fizzled out as well.
At the moment, there are some storms about, but these are not as bad as it may sound. Typically the clouds arrive, there is a torrential downpour for 30-40 minutes with some good lightning and thunder, then it blows away again.
I don't know why people worry about the runway at Skiathos. The flight operators know it is a short runway and use appropriate aircraft. I wouldn't want to land there in a 747, (well, unless I wanted to see what running across Xanemos beach was like at 100kph!), but the smaller Airbuses, Boeings and MD90 series planes are fine.
That sounds like quite a flock you will have with you. _________________ Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream. |
