| I was told that is, I hope this is right as I really love that bar. Vrom was not the same last year with it closed. |

| Thank-you! we are going back this year to celebrate it, but unfortunately 2 weeks later as it is so expensive in August. |

Giorgios, Costas and Vassilias from Vromolimnos have relocated to Tsougria, on the 2nd beach. Their taverna is open, is lovely and they are starting to attract business - from the unnatural glow of light over that island last night, it looked to me that night parties had begun.
I mourn this new distraction on that otherwise fairly untouched island. It has been a quiet place to which those who need a bit more space than Banana affords (I just can't get over the fact this year of how close the sunbeds are to one another. No matter which way you turn, you get a butt in the face.) or just some quiet within which to contemplate the beauty and peace that is Skiathos, can escape to - not by buzzing moped or car but by caique, a 20 minute trip over the beautiful sea, sometimes accompanied by dolphin and the breeze that clears the cobwebs left from a late night, or even clears one's thoughts themselves...
I wish, though, that people could see that *some things are best left well enough alone and unchecked building and people's insatiable appetites for drink are crowding out what magic and vitality and wildness still exists here. Soon, there will not be the Skiathos we've known and loved - because the Euro reigns and the fast and cheap holiday prevails. The island will be plastered in cement from one end of the island to the other... and the Skiathites will wonder why they only then get the tourists who want to drink until they puke, the ones who only want jet skis and fast boats and shun the small caiques and that way of life... the ones who don't wander the night away on the back alleys, learning patience and taking the time to savor the richness of life here...
Sorry - I am here now. I'm on the island, in my last week, and in my lazy morning and afternoon observations over coffees or a tsipouro with medezes I fear I see Skiathos slipping away, into the mists. I see locals hanging on to life here with white knuckles, as the masses of tourists forgo the real here, for the manufactured, forgo the Greek for the anywhere-in-the-world, the generic version of the Greek experience...
Last night the 'Paris' and another GINORMOUS yacht sashayed into our wee little harbor and they sit there now towering in their glittering glamorama over the little fishing caiques. The season has begun!!! _________________ "If you want others to be happy, practice compassion.

I agree completely with what you say. The beaches are nothing like they used to be ( I first went to Skiathos in '87) and when you went to the beach you could actulally SEE the beach!! Now it is a mass of sunbeds, like you said, so close to each other you end up seeing parts of other people you would not wish to!!
Skiathos is not a place for booming music bars and loads of people just drinking until they are sick and being loud and sometime offensive. I just hope people realise in time that Skiathos needs to be left as it is, where you can just enjoy the beautiful delights on the island which make up Skiathos, before its much too late.
I love the bustle in the harbour when the ferry comes in and I also enjoy looking at all the huge yachts which come in can be magical in the evenings.
But continuing to build everywhere and making the beaches not somewhere to go to relax anymore they try to cram as many sunbeds as possible on their patch will end up spoiling Skiathos forever. Lets hope its not too late. |

Hey, don't get me wrong - Skiathos is a beautiful Island and I absolutely love it! We are going in just under 2 weeks and I know we will go back next year, but by doing it ourselfs and not with Kosmar.
Yes there is building work going on and yes I think that most of the beaches have way too many beach beds on them, but you can find some fabulous beaches away from all the crowds if you just look. Hire a jeep and you will find places so beautiful it will take your breath away.
I was just saying that I hope people building new places and people who might just think that Skiathos needs livening up (it doesn't) with music bars etc might just realise this Island is beautiful and if something is perfect why change anything. |

You are always able to get away from the crowd if you want to. The good thing about Skiathos is that it caters for everyone's requirements - provided you want to look for it.
There have been some good posts on the board about those hidden away beaches. However if you like the comfort of the bus route beaches, yes some like Koukounaries Vromlimnos and Troulos will be busy. They also cater for the mass market, something not all of us are looking for.
That said I will be back on Vromlimnos, and Koukounaries in a few weeks ...
Interesting post by someone from Skiathos on Tripadviser regarding the beaches situation here _________________

Well I have to admit I loved the thought of Skiathos, the other posts paint a lovely picture. we went to Thassos a couple of years ago and loved it. I know koukounaries will be busy in July but I think from most of the posts that we should find somewhere not too bad and I figure that once the people go back into town at night we can walk on the beach then
It was reading of the music bars and night parties that i didn't fancy
Hope everyone has a marvellous time

Vromlimnos in the late afternoon, or Banana as the sun goes down are great places to be , likewise Eleni ...
Must say Vromlimnos for a cocktail after coming off the beach watching the fish jump in the shallows is magic. Glass of wine and watching the sun set through the glass on Banana are two of my favourite past times ... _________________
