ACK!!!!!!!!!!

I just saw the article about Skiathos in the most recent edition of the Athens News.

I am afraid that with articles such as that and the Hanks produced film (Mama Mia) we are about to say goodbye to the peace and relative calm of our lovely little island.... and once Aegean Air starts flying in from Athens (I think in '0 Cool

, it will be much more accessible to those who don't get the direct flights in... we love the fact that we hardly - in off season - hear any 'American' spoken there.... it's either the 1x a day Olympic flight in or the long haul via bus and ferry/dolphin from Ag. Kon. and though we dont mind at all, it's too much for those 'Murkins' who tend to want things 'NOW!!!!" - but with the easier access I am afraid that we may see Skiathos become like so many of the other islands...

Please, please, tell me it isn't so.... How can we keep our gem of the Aegean behind the mists, hidden from plain view??? Smile

(I'm sure that the islanders are very, very proud and pleased that so much attention is coming to their little island. As long as THEY - and not the big out of country operators - get to be the beneficiaries, I'll will be good and just go into the corner and pout without making a fuss... )

\Quick - we all hate the place!

it's a rip off

the beaches aren't worth writing home about

there's zillions of tourists and wasps

it's dead expensive

it's a tatty tourist resort

there's nothing in the way of choice of tavernas or bars

in a nutshell better off going to Tenerife. Laughing
