i were reading skidsys report and i liked it.
i agree with all of its points.
i feel its time i put my 2 bits worth and try to smarten you guys up .
if i were offered a free holiday anyware in greece starting from august the 1st untill the 17th id have to decline.
you see its maddness!
imposible to have a good time and as a matter of fact really easy to get into situations like fights, axxidents, rip offs, police harasment, and many other nightmare conditions, and worst of it you have to pay top prices for it.
there were a fight last night involving about 20 italians and 60 greeks including all the taxi drivers of the island.
another big fight in kukunaries beach involving car parking bettween serbs and austrians.(families with litle kids got involved)
i had to visit the health center over a bleading knose and god help all the beds were ocupied due to bike axidents and on the corridors 3 very drunk young girls sleeping on their own vomit.
all the popular beaches so full, skidsys feedback on the sunbed catcing the foot of the guy behind very true.
arg dont make the mistake of swallowing water itll taste of piss.......
on the tavernas the food will be burned or raw, the waitors overworked and very tired easy to start an argument, all they want is for you to finish and get, sos the next lot can sit.
one has to wait in lines everywere: in the shops , at the bakers, the markets, the bus(i compare the passengers like sardines in a can)( oh and if you make the error of getting off the bus anywere exept terminals, you WILL be stranded on the way back for more than 2 hrs in the hot sun and wait and wait and all will pass you full)
this is happening in all of the greek islands.
i know its very unfair if one tries at this times to do a write up about the spoil things which arent greek anymore,or how thinks were great in 2003 but they came in june then?
the climax of the maddness comes on august the 17th and 18th when the lines of cars trying to get to the ferys for the return trip, start at the old windmill by the airport and go on all the way along the front to the harbor.
resume:
anyone offers you a FREE holiday in august decline plz. |

Wise words, mate.
I wouldn't go on holiday anywhere in August, never mind the Greek Islands. Unfortunately some people don't have much choice & have to take their holidays when the factory shuts down or it maybe the only time they can get a week off work. |

| hi skiathos lad, i agree with every word you and foxy said. why oh why do holidays makers go to skiathos hellbent on getting sloshed out of their brains???,if i had my way i would have locked the 3 girls up in a cell,( provided they had not been attacked) and were actualy drunk) stamp their passport, NEVER TO RETURN TO SKIATHOS.!!! harsh !! i dont think so!! and let the doctors get on with people who are realy sick, same goes for anyone fighting!! have the astinomia (police ) gone soft, i think some how "happy hours" bars are to take some of the blame.better stop now before i think of some real barbaric punishments for people who go out to skiathos, and let the side down,i can think of a few nasty ones!! dont theese vomiting drunks know that they are giving the greek people the wrong impression,or are they like that at home ,god forbid!! |

| Yes Patsy, they are like that at home, you go into any british A/E dept. Friday, Saturday night and you will see much the same thing, the police dont want them in the cells because there is the a real chance that they may die without medical attention. |

skiathos lad,
Reads like an ordinary day and night in New York City...
| Quote: | | fights, axxidents, rip offs, police harasment, and many other nightmare conditions |
But that's not what I want to go to Skiathos for...
You gave an accurate & colorful depiction. I'm grateful that the drug mess in places like Mykonos is not part of the picture (any more) in Skiathos. _________________ The unnatural-- even this is natural. |

Our previous visits in 2001,2002 and 2003 were all in August so I am comparing the same time of year. Prior to 2001 we always visited in July or late June.
Of course we will always return to Skiathos because we love the island and we know we will always be able to go to at least one unspoilt beach no matter how crazy things become. |

I went to Naxos last week of August last year and went to Skiathos last week August 2005 - they were nothing like the horror scenes described here, thankfully. _________________ you heard it here first - BOJAN! |

Everyone is making me quite worried now. Our first visit ever to Skiathos was in 1990 July/Aug and we loved it. Since returning for the last four years we go May/June and absolutely love the freshness and peace and quiet. Due to the absolute poxy weather we were having in England I decided enough was enough and booked for 24 Aug for 1 week. I really hope it's not as bad as people are saying - surely anywhere in August is just as bad, after all it is the main holiday season. We had a taste of the booming music at Banana during our stay in June when the locals hit the beach at the weekends, this is our favourtie beach so I am hoping maybe the last week will not be so bad. The kids aren't too keen to trek along to Little Banana. Still the people we know will be the same and hopefully they will still have time for us. _________________ Ooh ... can't wait to feel the sand in my toes |

I'm sure you will be fine. The Italians will have gone back home and if banana is still over crowded or if there is another three day rave in progress just go down the hill to Ambelakia.
You'll still love the place. |

Now that the Greek public holiday has passed it will start to quieten down. I have been out the week before our UK Bank holiday before and its been busy but not too bad.
Lots of Italian trippers come over to Koukounaries from the mainland on the day boats. _________________

I know some people don't have the option but we've been once in June & twice in September. It's just nice either side of the school hols, not too busy & not too quiet. I too would hate to be tied to when the kids are off school, not only is it too busy but the prices ridiculous.
We're due to go again on the 31st August, probably the nearest time we've ever been to the school hols but I believe they go back on the 3/4th September so hopefully it won't be a problem. |

We were there lst year from 18th August until 8th September and we coulndt beleive how many people were there during our first week. It took us 6 mins to cross the road in Megali Amos because of the traffic, but what a difference 2 day later when all the Italians and Greeks had gone home (watching them all trying to get on the same ferry was amazing). Stavros from Eye Q said to us "they come for 1 week they come for 2 or even 3 weeks but they all want to go home at the same time on the same day". He also said that families come over but each driver in the family brings their car, so if you have mother, father daughter and son who all drive then thats 4 cars!!!!! _________________ Member of the "I got married in Skiathos" club

I, Like chelleb, was there for our wedding last year in August. What a nightmare - it was soooooo busy, as you all say, loads of greeks and italians because of the public holiday. Beaches were overcrowded and it really did not give our family and friends a true perception of what Skiathos was like, here we had all been raving about what a peaceful island it was - lol. all the same my mom loved it, pitty it could not have been quieter though. We have learnt our lesson and will not be going back in August again, or at least we will avoid the time of the public holiday. I did notice that waiters, restaurant staff, taxi drivers were all very stressed out and impatient, can't blame them though. Roll on September 14th - cant wait! _________________ http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2327059350 |
