Hi There
I am new to the Forum and I am thinking of visiting Skiathos next summer, we all have our favourite Greek islands and I was wondering what makes Skiathos so special?! |

Hi Elle
I could trawl through all the posts but I was hoping that someone could tell me what makes it so special for them. |

There is not one thing that makes Skiathos special .
Its many different things ,
The people you meet,
The food you eat,
The sights you see,
The landing at the airport ,
The friendliness of the locals,
I could go on for ever . But if you want in your face night life and British pubs and TV on the big screen you wont find it on every corner. _________________ Take a good look around it might not be there next time |

I think finding a location that is special to you is very personal, and so hard sometimes to explain to others... you have to experience it to understand it.
Certainly for me the Greek islands in general are very special - I can't explain why but words such as magical, enchanting, friendly, accommodating, hospitable, beautiful - possibly even spiritual - spring to mind.
Certainly Skiathos has a balance of it all. Not too commercialised so as to loose the appeal, but enough facilities to bring a bit of luxury to your holiday. There are far quieter islands, and there are far busier ones - it really depends on what you want.
But if you are lucky enough for it to catch your heart - then you will want to return again and again - and if like me (and many others on this site) you just might decide to move there permanently!

| Like others have said I think you need to experience the place yourself to make your own judgements. I love all the Greek Islands I have been to but Skiathos will always be a special place for us, that was why we got married there in June 2007. |

I think Bee is right ,its different things to different people.
It could be your accomodation a favorite beach or Taverna,or even just how Skiathos makes you feel. |

Hi All
(Alikitrypiti here been deleted thought I was a spammer)
This seems a really friendly board, and how you guys feel about Skiathos is exactly how I feel about Thassos, its in my blood and dare I say soul!
I have been going to Thassos since 1984 and have lived and worked there in that time.
The last couple of years we have done a 2 centre holiday, Thassos and Sithonia last year and Thassos and Skopelos the year before that, both have worked brilliantly as I get my much needed Thassos fix and we get to see another part of Greece.
This year we are thinking of visiting Skiathos and I am really looking forward to it from what I have heard from other people and what I have read on here.
We always travel independently and this year we will be using the new Easyjet route to Thessaloniki where we pick up a car for our 17 days away.
June and Bee are so right Greece is different things to different people, I love the way a coffee can turn into an all day party!
The heated discussions, the people you meet old and new, the food, late night music, and I do think there is a spiritual thing about the place (hope that doesn't sound too beardy wierdy)
When we traveled to Skopelos the ferry docked in Skiathos and it did look very nice from the ferry (loved Skopelos by the way) so I think it will be Thassos and Skiathos in 2008 for us.

| For me it has to be the many different beaches and scenery, then of course it's old faces from years ago and a friendly greeting. |
