| As you come out of the airport, there's normally quite a few locals asking if you want rooms. |

| The people who offer at the airport offer tourist rooms at tourist rates. By the time the season startsand the tourists arrive, most of the long term accomodation has been taken. It is best to plan ahead. |

Really? I often did wonder. I always imagined they would be rooms above the shops in town for some reason & would be quite cheap. |

There is nothing cheap in Skiathos!!!!
The guys at the airport are really the option of last resort(Excuse the pun) Most of them would rather be elsewhere having rented out the rooms for the season for huge amounts!
The past has seen mass tourism hit Skiathos and the owners of shops etc. cashed in long ago by renting their flats out without licences - hopefully something which people will be more wary of after the deaths in Corfu.
Always check your accommodation is registered with the tourism agency which I think is caled EOT and that there is current third party liability insurance. I believe this is the law in Greece as well as everywhere in the EU. The holiday reps responsible for the health and safety checks in Corfu could be facing manslaughter charges according to a report on Radio 4 this week..... |

I shared a flat with two others above Spartacus Bar for €200 a month each, in 2005.
A few of the workers had rooms at the top of Papadiamantis near Asprolithos.
If you want to PM me, Peachy, I can put you in touch with a couple of people who work there regularly, and may be able to tell you more. _________________ To dance beneath a diamond sky with one hand waving free..... |
