Will Mamma Mia have the same effect on Skiathos and Skopelos that Captain Correlli had on Kefalonia ?
Their trade soared and the island trips would point out where this was filmed and where that was filmed and where Nic Cage stayed etc.
Alot of people read the book and saw the film and thought " I want to visit"
What's your views ?
Gary
Sorry just realised that another thread touched on this, but I think it will attract people to the island. From what I heard last week, a lot of hotels are running at 70% capacity, which at this time of the year is not what they want. _________________ Greece is the word ! |

I must admit while I haven't seen the film (not a huge Abba fan) the bits I have seen all seem to be in Skopelos.
I will watch it when it comes out on DVD tho, just cos we were there when they were filming! |

Well today The NOTW ran a 2 page write up on Skopelos and The People ran a 2 page spread on Skiathos.
The film, by the way, is getting rave reviews and I think will be seen by many many people.

Today the Sun has an article on Skopolos
See http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/travel/article1413102.ece
Hope they lay on some more flights next year, or its going to be a little difficult to get there ... _________________

Personally, I do not think that the film will have any affect on tourists coming to Skiathos. Captain C Mandalin was set in the film in Kefalonia, where as Moma Mia is set in a fake greek island. My aunt arived with a copy of the Mirror the other day and it stated the film was set in Thesalonika!

Probably not, but if the film does raise the profile of the islands as suggested. Then on the way over to Skopolos, they will mainly arrive by air on Skiathos ... _________________

I think the film will be such a hit EVERYONE will want to visit and boy am I glad we've been this year and not within the next 5 years. Amarandos ( rock with 3 trees on ) wont be a problem but Kastani most certainly will be for parking.
I've no idea if the council plan to open up the field behind it for parking but if they dont then expect major congestion. And Ioannis will be exactly the same although in this instance it's not possible to create extra parking. I loved this Island and me thinks I've gone at exactly the right time.

I did a search for 2 weeks from 12th June 2009 flying from Newcastle. There were only 4 seats left on that flight!! My 2 seats are now booked..phew!
I don't know how many seats the operators have free but certainly doing an independant holiday next year could be difficult if you don't get your flights booked soon! _________________ http://www.ionian-island.co.uk |
