We're going again tonight and taking a couple of friends with us. The place was nearly empty on Monday afternoon but I'm hoping there will be a lot more there tonight to add 'atmosphere'.
We will be in Skiathos again in just over 8 weeks. |

It has FINALLY opened here...
We'll go tomorrow night - I really am looking forward to it.
It opens at the same time as 'The Dark Knight' opens - hopefully it doesn't (wait now.... maybe I mean "i HOPE it DOES") get overlooked!

| Went again last night with hubby Dave + two female friends. The place was packed this time and the atmosphere was great. Our friends thoroughly enjoyed it, thought it was brilliant. We enjoyed all over again, in fact even more. I saw things I didn't see the first time. I started clapping at the end and others joined in. |

Saw it in the open-air cinema in Skiathos Town - lucky to have the choice but wouldn't have seen it anywhere else.
The atmosphere was great. Locals would clap and cheer when they saw places they recognised and the kids would excitingly point at the screen to their parents. Whilst in the UK we might have tutted at such behaviour it just added to the atmosphere. The tourists, and it was probably a 50:50 split added to the occasion, taking in the pride and joy the locals felt and leading the singing (as the words were less familiar to the locals). At the end (and I too won’t ruin it) the clapping was intense, never experienced anything like it in a cinema anywhere in the world. Made the hairs on the back of you neck stand-up!
I know someone commented that they hoped the tourists would stay away, and I understand the fear. However, this seemed to be an occassion where the two groups really bonded in their enjoyment of Greece and the fun Abba can be.
Thoroughly recommend seeing it in Skiathos - 9pm for the family, 11pm for the rest - much more dancing along at the 11pm show!. They have extended the run until the 23rd as it is nearly sold out everynight.
Someone said the film was cheesy – it certainly is, but feta cheesy! |

What I want to know is:-
How much of the film was made on Skiathos?
Where is the church, is it on Skopelos? |

Well....we've just returned from Skopelos and went to see the film in the open air cinema in Skopelos town at 9.30pm on the 7th......fantastic.
We all loved it and imagine the scene when you glance up to see a shooting star high above the screen.......absolutely true....gorgeous.
Did the touring the Island film locations by jeep thing, aswell as the rest of the Island and loved it. Some stunning scenery.
Maureen......the church is indeed on Skopelos and it takes your breath away....Agh Ioannis.....an hour from Skopelos town on the road east from Glossa. All the film locations can be found on

hi Maureen think the only scenes that were filmed on skiathos were at the start as the old harbour was meant to be a mainland departure port, possibly Athensmost of the other was on Skopolos and a small part on the Pelion, this may be where the church was, hope this helps

Also went to see it. Actually I have never been an Abba fan and hubby loves them but admitted he wouldnt have gone to see it at home. He thought it was a bit "cheesy" but thoroughly enjoyed the sites and the atmosphere in the cinema. Its just so different sitting in Skiathos where it was filmed, albeit I think most of the filming was in Skopelos. Everyone was dancing and clapping towards the end of the film and it was a great atmosphere. Have to say though got bitten to pieces throughout the entire performance. By the mozis I have to add _________________ www.ClearSpray.co.uk |

| It could have been worse Diamond you could have been sat in front of me last week when I accidentally headbutted a tub of popcorn and showered the couple in front!! Luckily they had a sense of humour and the bloke watched the film with his hood up just in case. |

I managed to get my hubby to be to come with me to see it and even he had to admit that really enjoyed it! Like Ems we are getting married in Skiathos too, but next June, and seeing all that beautiful scenery just got us even more excited than we already were!!! But when I saw the donkey thing I knew it wouldn't be for me as I'd be bound to land on my head or something!
There's some about seeing somewhere you've been on the big screen that makes you want to screech to everyone in the cinema that you've been there but I managed to hold it in!!
Pierce Brosnan's singing was comical but Meryl Streep was fab! Special mention to Colin Firth whose singing also wasn't the greatest but it was good seeing him and Pierce giving it a shot anyway!
Recommended, everyone looked happy after it, such a feel good movie! _________________ Nicola x |

Well....we've just been to see it for a third time and love it more each time. Swaying hands in the air at the end and to my youngest daughters horror, singing down the escalator afterwards..lol. Yes I get some looks but as a lady said to me after the Skopelos showing we went to...' You do realise you'll be singing those songs for weeks now don't you?'... .
Anyway...I thought some may be interested in our pics from the film locations on the Island.
Bell Tower where Sophie posted her letters...Skiathos.
Amarandos.....picnic spot.
Kastani....beach scenes.
Nisi...rocks they jumped from....cave next to Villa Donna on the cliff top. ( Access to the cliff top was prevented by a gate with security cameras unfortunately...private villas I believe ).
Agh Ioannis......wedding

We saw the film - twice...
Loved it! We both truly loved it.
I really never liked ABBA - but Paul admitted to me just before we went to see it that when he was a teen, he hummed a few of their tunes....
The movie was a DELIGHT, a true celebration of awesomely aging women, (not to mention beautiful young ones!) people not taking themselves at all seriously, Colin Firth was adorable and Meryl Streep - well, what can I say, she is a Goddess. The real star was Skopelos... how much more beautiful could it have gotten???
thank GOODNESS it wasn't Skiathos! I know that the hordes will pass through Skiathos on their way to Skopelos, and hopefully that will help the local economy somehow (as long as the people stay and eat LOCALLY, and take the local caiques for tours around the island...!) - it could be worse.
Skiathos looked just like Skiathos. Lovely to see, and when I am in the least bit homesick I won't mind pulling this DVD out again and again...
Elle and Paul (who dislikes musicals, but loved this - even though he was one of about 10 men in the whole theater!!!) _________________ "If you want others to be happy, practice compassion.

Completely agree regards the film Elle....superb with gorgeous scenery.
The owner of the studios we stayed in, Sophie, went to the after shoot party at The Garden in Skopelos ( excellent taverna btw ) where we ate the last 2 nights of our holiday and the waiters along with Sophie all said how great they were. Meryl Streep, along with Pierce and co were so friendly and approachable.
They sang and danced the night away until 6am.....lol.....all 300 of them.
Pierce Brosnan started off staying in villas high up the hillside Sares side of the port but he felt too out of the way for him n family to walk into town so they moved to Skopelos Village Hotel and Apartments by where we stayed....says everything me thinks.....and he was supposed to have been excellent posing for pictures and paying special attention to the young kids wanting to pose for pics with him.......superb.
