Maureen absoloutly fabulous, you tell it as it is!!!
Feeling sad, as Phil and I have always gone back for our second holiday the last 2 weeks in September, but due to financial circumstances (spending too much on landscaping the garden) which I regret, we are unable to go. But hey, lets not get depressed we have a holiday to look forward to in March and then back to Skiathos in the summer, although I fancy a change, but I doubt if we will.
It's been a long day better get some sleep now.

| Thanks Kaz I'm glad you enjoyed my ramblings. I think it's the first time I've done a 'blow by blow' account of our holiday, but I did miss a lot out. I didn't want to bore anyone more than I did and put folks off coming on this forum. We are now talking of going back next June when hopefully the weather is a bit more reliable. We've even considered staying in town for the first time too. We did seem to spend more time in town this year but then again that was mainly due to the weather. Everytime we saw Flip and Pidge they were wearing these lovely, matching, red cagoules and that is how I will remember them. Maybe next year we might bump into them with less clothing on. Now please don't take that the wrong way folks. In case you are reading this Flip or Pidge, it was lovely meeting you and we had some good laughs together. You never know we might see you next June. I had a text from Kriandos this morning and he told me it was showery but warm. |

Yes but I managed to get my legs out in the sun at the airport after we had checked our luggage in. We sat on the seat next to the arrivals door and it was so hot!
I've been watching the forecast to see what it's like for Kriandos, poor thing.

We actually had the sun shining down on us for about an hour on the day we left. We also saw it as we boarded the plane.
Like one or two others, it's doubtful we will be going back in September. We're thinking of going mid June next year now. Dave has to have another holiday in mind as these dark nights make him feel miserable. Anyway have you sorted out where you are going for your 50th Flip? |

You name it Maureen, we've looked at it!!
Maldives..... good chance it's going to rain in October and what do you do on an island half a mile square!
Cape Verde isles..... sunny and warm, but they hold wind-surfing competitions......... it's going to be windy and you'll get sandblasted on the beach!!
Florida Keys (Key West).... we're only going for a week, by the time you get there, it's time to come back!!
Antigua..... have you ever flown into Antigua airport? It is the pits!!
Tenerife.... been there, done that!! (Several times!)
Skiathos.... would love to go, but it was bad enough in September! What's it going to be like in late October... even if I could fly there!
Any suggestions on a postcard please... I need somewhere not too far (we are only going for a week), guaranteed sunshine, nice beaches, cheap beer! Am I asking for too much?! _________________ This is not a rehearsal......live life to the full. |

I have never been to The Gambia as a tourist, only into and out of Banjul airport as the flight only charters were a fraction of the cost of the scheduled flights to Dakar in Senegal which is only an hours bus ride away. I can say that the local beer "Joyful Julbrew" comes in thimle sized bottles, costs a fortune and is truly awful.
The sun is bad for you. Try something outrageously original, Grimsby for example - probably cost more then the Maldives of course. _________________ Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream. |

Don't you need a lot of vaccinations to go to the Gambia? If that is the case, there's no way Pidge would go, she hates injections with a passion..... and she was a Dental nurse!! That and the beer being expensive and undrinkable would seem to rule it out.
On the other hand, Grimsby is closer, the beer is probably drinkable and the fish and chips should be good, but don't you need lots of vaccinations?!? _________________ This is not a rehearsal......live life to the full. |
