Hi Everyone

What an awful summer we have had in the UKand with KOSMAR folding????

Fortunately we have been able to re book for July 2009 and lost no money unlike the poor people who booked direct with XL and lost every thing. IT’S CRIMINAL and the government should protect fellow travellers.

This is where we need your help anything about the Accommodation we have booked namely Myrtia Apartments at Koukanaris. (We chose these apartments ne as I believe they are close to the Banana Beaches for that all over tan!)

We have read a number of write ups on Trip Advisor, but would rather here from our friends on the The Skiathos Bulletin Board for the truth - warts and all.

So over to you Boomarangers your help would be greatly appreciated with any TIPS restaurants, beaches (the nude variety and quiet) and the does and don’ts of the area

Nudity is technically illegal on all beaches. It tends to be tolerated best on Little Banana. This is an emotive subject and several threads here have become very "vocal". Have a read through this thread for some ideas.

We have never stayed out of town so can't offer personal information on any of the accomodation, but many will.

One of my favourite tavernas on the island is Captain Michaelis, also known as Apostolios. It is different. People who know exactly what they want to eat should probably not go there. Michael is a real character. He knows what is best or freshest today, and what is doing well in his wood oven. If you go with the flow and eat what he recommends, you will rarely be dissapointed. Chat to him, become his friend - he'll remember you and all manner of "little extras" will appear, the odd free carafe of wine, an experimental salad from his own garden, big bunch of grapes from the vines, some of his wifes home made fire water...

Hi. We now live on Skiathos but Myrtia was the place we stayed when we first came on holiday to Skiathos many years ago. We used to visit different Greek islands three times a year & the only time we ever returned to the same place was Skiathos & Myrtia. It was designed by the previous owner who was an architect & was family run up until the start of the 2008 season when it was sold. We have been there several times during the summer & it continues to have one of the best pools on the island as well as being in a superb location set amongst the pine trees about 500m from the main road. It has an on site restaurant which certainly used to be excellent although we have not eaten there this year. Koukounaries has some very good bars & restaurants and, as you say, is ideally located for some great beaches. Enjoy your holiday.

I think this is next door to Amalia Apartments where we have stayed for 8 years in a row. We used to pop next door for food, they do takeaways as well as sit down and you can use their pool if you have a drink. I stopped using it as much after it sold cos the staff and owners used to recognise us each year. It became less personal and the service was slow. However I stayed in town this year and although we visited Amalia to say high several times, we did not go next door. My favourite restaurant at Koukounaries is the Runway, its not called that on the sign but you cant miss it. If you are walking up to the top supermarket, its the one back off the round with a row of lights leading up to it.
