Just had a phone call from the boss. She said to check on the Monarch Web Site it appears as if they have taken over some of the XL slots and accommodation. I have not had time to check yet.

There was a lot of talk in Skiathos last week about Monarch taking over the XL slots and about Cosmos being interested in some of the ex-Kosmar accommodation.
The most worrying thing I heard was that if a UK company doesn't come in for the old XL slots then they will become available to other countries, how true this is I'm not sure but could make independent travel to Skiathos a lot more difficult |

I thought Cosmos & Monarch were the same company now? |

Hi Hayley
You are right, they are the same company now.
Hopefully if Monarch do take the XL slots they will sell some flight-only seats which they haven't done in the past. If my source of info is correct, First Choice will be cutting back on the number of flight-only seats per aircraft next year. |

Hmmm, and so it becomes slightly easier for them that have had much bigger problems then you?
I'm sorry, but that really annoyed me. _________________ Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream. |

I can see what Kath means there, Adrian...I think it was 'lost in translation' so to speak, along the way.
You can't blame anyone for being miffed. who's been used to travelling to their favourite holiday destination, two or three times a year for eons, to suddenly find the door closed.
I appreciate where you're coming from as well (Denmark to be precise) & it's not so simple for you anyway. |

Thanks Foxy, you are on my wavelength.
I didn't mean any offence by what I said and the last thing I want to do is annoy people but I'm not apologising for being a bit disconcerted if I find direct travel to Skiathos from the UK becoming difficult due to circumstances out of our control.
My comment was not meant in any light other than this Adrian and I'm surprised at your reply, however both you and I and others will just have to do our best with whatever becomes available to us, hopefully something that will benefit us all. |

Be careful, you may not be protected if you book with Monarch direct!

Hi Diamond.
As people who booked direct with XL have discovered, you're only protected by ATOL/CAA if you've gone through an ATOL agent.
People who booked direct with XL are only protected through their credit card company. Anyone who paid cash, cheque or debit card, direct to XL, isn't protected.

With the collapse of Sterling over here, many people have discovered this as well. Most people book direct via the websites and then use a "Dankort" which is a debit card to pay. These are not covered by any cover plans and the people have basically lost their money.
In fact, they have become creditors of the company, and whoever is appointed to liquidate the assets pays out whatever there is to the creditors. Unfortunately, end user type customers are low down the list of people to be paid. The government is first in line and usually takes anything there is as tax, fee's, dues whatever. There is rarely anything left for the end users. _________________ Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream. |
