|
|
I just checked the Hellenic website for passage to Skiathos from both Volos and Ag Kon on Dec 25 and 26... nothing!
Yikes.
I understand why not the 25th perhaps, but am hoping to get there at least by the 26th. There are dolphins from both ports on Saturday the 27th, as well as a flight from Athens. Barring bad weather, that one is a no brainer for me...
Does anyone (Ian? Mike? Darrell?) know where I might check to see if the ferry is making trips to the island by then and might be going at least on the 26th, which is a Friday?
Thanks!
Dreaming of Skiathos, empty beaches, maybe a bit of snow, wood smoke, (sorry Kath!) friends, and tsipouro in late December, and a Skiathos New Years!

How about this for an idea Elle ??
Get to Katiyiorgis and see if the owner of Thimios will bring you across.
We arranged this with Christos Stathakis a couple of years ago, but he only has a small speed boat, and poor weather at the last minute meant he could'nt make the crossing.
Thimios could do it easily.

GREAT idea Brian - but I do believe that Thimios is out of water and 'resting' for the winter!
I can't find any Express Skiathos crossing at all in the week I need it! There are dolphin crossings before and after Christmas, but if the weather isn't OK for dolphin passage, what then? Argh.... _________________ "If you want others to be happy, practice compassion.

Canoe!
That's it! (I can see it now.. the coast guard having to save me just off Katiyiorgi...)
Can't change dates - cheaper to fly on Christmas (now THAT'S dedication, eh? A barrel of laughs, traveling Christmas Day...) and if I don't go cheap, I don't go - though now perhaps I can rationalize changing dates & spending more on flight and not so much on hotels, while I wait for passage! _________________ "If you want others to be happy, practice compassion.

Elle,
The ferry and Dolphin times are always slow to come on-line.When I drove here in January, the times were not posted up until 2 weeks before we travelled.
if I find anything out I will let you know. _________________ www.perigiali-skiathos.com

Darrell, thanks so much!!
I'm hoping to come from Athens the 26 or 27th (Dec.)... or the days just before Christmas.

Well - I shall see you on the hopper! (assuming the weather Gods - and the Olympic Airline Gods, and the National Strike Gods - act in our favor!)
Arriving Athens the night before, too... not sure where I'm staying, yet. Actually, not sure of anything yet! Might be heading up to Volos for a long wait!

Olympic technicians have been refusing to work overtime since last Wednesday, which is why lots of flights have been cancelled. There are supposed to be talks this week, but it's looking very worrying for Saturday's flight. Not sure what we'll do. Darryl any news on those ferries from Volos?
Thanks

I rec'd word from Alkyon that there are ferries both Sat and Sun from Volos at 9:00 AM.
Dolphin from Volos (weather permitting) at 14:30, Sat and Sun.
I may take the bus from Liossion to Volos at some time Sat late AM, and and stay overnight to catch the ferry at 9. I guess I'll wait as long as it takes to get some definitive answer about the Sat flight before I catch a bus up.
The weather isn't looking too promising... it could well be an adventure.
But - it will be a Greek adventure!
Good luck to you, Val and Kev!
Packing....

The ferry from Volos seems to be coming in ok,but because of the weather, dolphins from A.K and Volos are being cancelled left right and centre. _________________ www.perigiali-skiathos.com

Today, the Express Skiathos fka Haroula sat in the port from around 12 until 4. (Oops, that gives away the fact that we were at Kabourelia for a while!). My guess is that the weather was too bad for it to dock in Skopelos so it just sat around here until it was scheduled to go to Volos.
I've heard that the Express Skiathos is due to be withdrawn from service for maintenance. Apparently it's got an engine problem which means that it's taking 3 hours from Volos instead of 2 hours 30 minutes.
Al.
ps. Kabourelia is only closing on 2 days. December 25th and January 1st. |
