|
Some of you have had this already but for those who havent here are the wedding details for getting married in Skiathos
First thing to do is get a copy of your full birth certificates (these will be kept in Skiathos after you leave so dont give them the originals) £10 each
Also if you have been married before they will want a copy of your decree nisi
Also deed pole documents if you have changed your name
Then 3 months before the date you want to get married you will need to get a certificate of no impediment each from your local registry office. These are then posted for 21 days before you can collect them. £30 each
Then you will nedd to send them off to the Foreign and Commonwealth office to be stamped. £19 per document plus postage which they recommend being by Special delivery £5.00
Then they need to be sent to a translator who will then take them to the greek embassy to be stamped again and will then post them back to you. Ours charged £120 plus postage for 4 documents
Thats the paperwork done.
If you are going with Olympic you will need to send a copy of the documents to them 5 weeks before the wedding
Then all you have to do is wait till you go to Skiathos.
If Olympic are organising th wedding you will have a wedding Co ordinator in Skiathos who will guide you though the next bit.
When in Skiathos you will need to go to the mayors office and apply to be married, this was the easiest thing to do as the lady who arranged everything was so helpful (apparently they had sacked the previous one as she was really, really unhelpful, and insisted in speaking greek when she can speak fluent english). Then you have to go to the tax office and buy your stamps, the take them back to the mayors office and chose your date Then a couple of days before the wedding you have to go back to the mayors office and pay £80 for your marriage license. Few. We did it a bit wrong and ended up paying for the license before we had applyed but they were ok about it and didnt charge us twice.
After that you will need to decide where to have your reception, what flowers you would like and what kind of cake you want.
We had our reception at the Thessaloniki Taverna on Megali amos beach and Thanasis the owner was so helpfull with the food . We decided to have a sit down buffet which consisted off Greek salad, special salad and a seafood salad with a choice of roast beef and gravy, chicken curry and tuna and crab parcels in filo pastry. we also got a kilo of wine per person (!) and for 42 people it cost us about £20 per head - there was so much food.
For dessert we had our wedding cake which was a 5 tier chocolate cake from one of the bakers in skiathos town and ther was more that enough to go round. The cake was more like a mousse than a cake and was fantastic. that cost about £70
For the flowers I had a bouquet and three of the bridesmaids had a smaller one. we also had 4 buttonholes and all together it cost about £100 - the button holes were only 2 euros each.
Phil who organised the wedding for us did the photos himself so didn't charge us for taking them but the developing and a photo album cost 138 euros (we had about 200 pictures) and my mums partner took some action shots which are fantastic (and I think better than the official ones, just)
The cermony is only about 10 mins and is done by the mayor but if you have someone to translate the vows then it can double the time. We only had to say "I will" to our translator who was one of our friends.
We had everyone meet at the King and Queen then myself and the bridesmaids met at Fresh bar at the begining of the new harbour and we walked to the Bourtzi (this is where you feel famous, so many people wish you good luck and waving and taking photos) the I met up with Glenn, had some more photos and went to get married. After the ceremony we went the the Taverna on the Bourtzi then had to get a coach to Megali Amos, were had organised a boat but the port police would not let it out as out was too windy.
We didnt want anything too formal so the relaxed atmosphere was perfect.
I took some ribbon for the flowers that matched the bridesmaids dresses. I also to place cards but didnt use them.
Anything is possible, all you have to do is ask someone. If they can't do it they will know someone who can.
Just a little update - After being asked a couple if times I have looked in to this and, according the the General Registry Office, you do not have to register your wedding in Skiathos when you get back home.

Hi Chelleb,
Thanks for the information extremely helpful.
Got our copy birth certificates, booked to see our registrar at the beginning of June re certs, going to London at the end of June to Foreign Office to have them stamped and will then send to translator.
Just a few of questions to ask. Firstly can you remember how much the tax stamps cost and where is the tax office in Skiathos?
Secondly, I know the service is only 10 mintues long plus we are having it translated by one of our friends, but do you know if they allow you time to say any of your own words to each other? _________________ Thanks

Hi Gaynor,
I got married in Skiathos last year, and as far as I remember the tax was 30 Euro's. The lady at Olympic got them for us, I would imagine that you get them from the post office, but I could be wrong. The service is very casual so I really dont think there would be a problem if you wanted to do your own vows, it is also very short, so would be nice to make it more memorable.
Good luck and I hope you have an awesome day |

Jax is correct the stamps are30 euros each but you have to get them from the tax office in Skiathos town then take them back to the town hall to be put with your paperwork. _________________ Member of the "I got married in Skiathos" club

Hi, sorry your going to be fed up of my questions, I'm only 22 and this is a lot to try and get your head round at any age so pls bare with me !
chelleb is this as hard as it looks, or does it just seem that way??
I've contacted 'Skiathos Blue Travel' where I believe the infamous Anastasia works, for some more info on what they'd arrange for you and costs etc.
I don't mean to be rude or pry but has anyone got a ball park figure as to what they spent, how much the paperwork etc is you have to get sorted here before you go??
they'll be about 20 of us, I am looking at the Skiathos Princess for the whole thing, as much as I love Bourtzi the cars to and fro etc will add up.
I've emailed the Princess but it's not even in season their so they haven't got back to me yet.
I no that's a lot of info and you are all so so busy with more pressing weddings but just reading your chats is helpful o any advice you can throw my way would be sooooooooo appreciated!
Thansk in advance your all stars xx |

If I remember correctly our paperwork was approx £400 but then we had both been married before and had extra copies and translations for our Decree Nisi's etc.
Also it is not as daunting as it sounds, everything is done within a certain timescale. I did a timeline on our calendar in the kitchen which helped a great deal.
However you decide to have your day, you have picked a fantastic place to get married. _________________ [url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/]

All paperwork should cost in total - approx £400 that includes paperwork in Skiathos ie license & stamps.
Its not as hard as it looks. The only panic I had was when the royal mail failed to show that my recorded delivery had acutally been delivered to the F&C office !!!!!
everything will be ok, just remeber to check all your dates so things get sent out and you receive them back in time. _________________ Member of the "I got married in Skiathos" club
