Our holiday has been jinxed from the start. To begin with we had to cancel and rebook because Manos withdrew flights from Bristol and changed to Gatwick 2 days earlier! Rebooked with First Choice flying out in 4 weeks time Friday May 23rd. On Wednesday my hubby ruptured his Achilles tendon and is now in a leg plaster! We have gone from so looking forward to our yearly visit to dreading it - I am now going to have to drive us to Gatwick (from Cornwall) and we have also hired a car for the fortnight which I am going to have to drive. Anyway you'll know who we are when you see old hop along pegging it across Banana Beach... _________________ Ooh ... can't wait to feel the sand in my toes |

That is bad luck!
Just don't get sand down inside the plaster, that would be painful.
I am sure you will still enjoy an excellent holiday on the perfect isle. _________________ Roll on 2009! |

I'd rather a doctors note saying he can't fly to be honest - but at the moment they have said go for it! _________________ Ooh ... can't wait to feel the sand in my toes |

Hi Lorraine, a ruptured Achilles sounds really painful how long will it take to heal ?
Good job the path down to Banana is now clear to get your car down.
We will keep a look out for poor Hubby and buy him a Mythos to help cheer him up.
Mrs Kriandos broke her foot whilst on the Island several years ago, in the first few days of a three week stay, the only cure was a constant supply of alcohol, kindly provided by the lads behind Banana Taverna
Good luck,I'm sure it will turn out fine. |

We're not exactly sure but we think 4-6 weeks in plaster. He has to go back a week Thursday to have the plaster that is on at the moment removed and then they look to see how it's healing. Initially there was talk of operating but the consultant talked him out of that - if the healing isn't good in 2 weeks there's still a chance he may have to have an operation. We just gotta wait and see. I do hope the route down to Banana is still open - I did joke and say we'd have to go to the local beach and he said he was going to Banana if he had to drag himself down on his bottom. That I'd like to see...... Some people have said plaster for 4 weeks then a boot - so who knows he may be in a boot. The Mythos will cheer him up no end I'm sure! _________________ Ooh ... can't wait to feel the sand in my toes |

Don't you mean 'heel'? Ooh, really sorry, couldn't resist. Many years ago I had an accident & went to Spain with a plaster cast on my leg. The heat made it quite uncomfortable but I used one of those little battery operated hand held fans to blow cold air down the inside of the cast. This helped a little but the San Miguel helped more!
Hope you manage to still enjoy your holiday. _________________ I'd rather have a full bottle in front

Didn't you find the cold San Miguel helped initially when you poured it down the cast, but then got a bit warm and sticky?!!

Things sadly have just got a whole lot worse. Hubby had an appointment at the hospital today and basically we have had to cancel the holiday. He will be in plaster for at least another 6 weeks and the doctor said that he would not be able to travel. We are all absolutely gutted - we have been looking forward to this so much. Yes we can go later in the year I guess but it will not be the same, we will miss all our friends that we have met over the years. Hope all you lucky guys have a fantastic holiday, we will be thinking of you boo hoo..... _________________ Ooh ... can't wait to feel the sand in my toes |

Just caught onto this Lorraine, so sad to hear you had to cancel.
I can imagine how you feel, but don't worry, there will be plenty of us out there later in the year and at least Hubby won't have to drag his bottom on the hot sand!! _________________ Cherie
