Hi, got back yesterday from our first ever visit. Stayed at the Paradise Hotel which is up in the hills behind bus stop number 8.
We went there on a recommendation and were told the views were awesome..... They were and I nearly fell over when I opened the shutters to our balcony and saw the viista.
The family work so hard and run a shuttle service to town six times a day.
We didn't visit that many restaurants to be honest cos the food at the hotel was absolutely spot on. Totally Greek and very very good. The views from the dining area are great too and you could do a lot worse than visit one evening just for a meal.
I love scenery and am the sort of person who gets goosepimples and can't speak when I see a great view. I was therefore cold and quiet a lot of this holiday !
Splendid views abound from all over the island. That view on an evening from the Bourtzi, will stay with me forever.
Because of a broken arm I didn't hire a jeep or car so didn't see as many places as I would have liked.
We loved Koukanaries especially at 9am when it was empty. Loved the blue taverna next to Esperides Hotel on Achilidies.
Spent most days on the town beach bedded down outside the Swell Bar where there was more space.
If you go there visit the Thessalonika Taverna on the beach. The best salads we have ever tasted anywhere and the chilled Lowenbrau...Aaaaaagh.
To be honest the camera never stopped clicking and the alleys in the old town kept us enthralled. We just loved it, we had a great time, made loads of friends and we will be back soon.
This site certainly helped us find our way around so thanks everyone oh and met Darrell in the hotel good luck mate. _________________ Greece is the word ! |

SL John, I'll pm you.
Elle it's a term linked to my football team, nothing exotic I'm afraid.
It's easily remembered though!

Hi Bee,
The town beach is known as Megali Ammos. I believe if you get off the bus at stops 4 to 6 and cut down any of the slopes you will come to the beach.
It is a long beach served by about 10 tavernas.
We would get off at stop 4 then walk back past the kiosk and down the first slope through the narrow street down to the bottom then left down a few steps and walk along the side of a taverna that brings you out onto the beach near the watersports.
Walk away from the town and you will see the Thessalonika which actually may be Thessaloniki. The views are fantastic, the service friendly and the food consistently excellent.
Someone with a bit more knowledge than me might want to chip in.

We've been to Skiathos 6 times and always stayed in town, but have never been to Megali Ammos. After reading this, perhaps we'll visit the beach in September.
