9-16 July 08
This was just a week’s visit this time as I couldn’t get any more time off work! (It always gets in the way), so this shouldn’t be too long.
We left home just before midnight for the 3 hour trog to Gatwick, we arrived at the Holiday Parking car park at 03:00, checked the car in and caught the bus to the North Terminal. We checked in straight away with no queue, amazing. Flight left at 07:30, 30 minutes late, but it was only going to be a 3 hour flight, so we arrived Skiathos 5 minutes early at 12:30 local.
We picked up our Suzuki Jimny straight away form the Victoria Car Rental desk at the airport and drove straight to the Plaza Hotel, Kanapitsa. We got given a ground floor room near to the pool. After unpacking, we had a quick drink at the pool bar before heading straight for Banana.
In the evening we ate at Alexandros Taverna saying hello to Magda before a walk around the harbour and up Pap Street.
We had a couple of days sat around the Hotel Pool eating out at Paradosi Taverna, Troulos and Carnayo Taverna near the yacht marina in town (caught the water taxi). We informed Christos at Paradosi of the sad passing of Patsy and he gave us the sad news that his father had passed away, but the good news that on Wednesday 9 July, Soula had given birth to their 3rd child in Thessaloniki.
For the next 3 days we went to Banana Beach, which got quite busy during the afternoon, it was like the M25 trying to get from there around 4pm. We ate at Nectar and Ambrosia in Troulos (excellent as ever) and went up to Panorama Pizza on the Sunday evening (excellent views from up there over the town and Skopelos). On the Monday evening, we were supposed to be going off to the Boomerang meeting at Varelli’s in Troulos, which Guy had arranged, but LB was suffering slightly with a bad stomach, so regrettably we thought it best if we stayed in that evening. We were really sad that we were unable to get to the Boomerang meeting and apologise to everybody that was there.
On the Tuesday, we again just stayed at the pool at the Plaza Hotel. In the evening we ate at the hotel and chilled out at the pool bar. We were woken at about midnight by the wind which had suddenly got up to gale force and in the morning there was pool furniture everywhere. LB was a little concerned that our aircraft wouldn’t get in but there was no problems there. We checked in at 10:30 and while sitting in the departures lounge 15 minutes before departure, the PA came on saying that because of the lower temperatures due to the wind, the captain had calculated we would not need to stop at Thessaloniki to refuel and we would be able to get back to Gatwick direct, Hoorah!! However, we left ½ an hour late but managed to get into Gatwick ½ an hour early. A night mare journey around the M25 meant we arrived home at 21:00.
Summary
Plaza Hotel
Quite a nice hotel with pleasant rooms and facilities, however, the walls are very thin and you can hear most things that go in the rooms adjacent and above yours.
Fire Damage
Things are starting to green up again in the areas affected by the fire last year.
Holiday Parking
Easy to use and cheap. 5 minute journey to the North terminal.
Victoria Car Rental
Excellent as usual and very helpful with good quality vehicles.

| LB & BB nice to read your report. We eat at the Paradosi a lot when we are there so it's good to hear about their new baby. |

| We always go to the paradiso when we visit skiathos, but ths year we went along to find it closed ! However Christos was around and we had a chat.He said that his father had passed away and that Soula was expecting another child very soon, so we were pleased to hear that he is back open and the news about the baby is great to hear |
