| I managed to find a quote for a flight on Viking which seemed very reasonable through a flight finder website, but there is no mention of this route on Viking Airways website. Anyone else got any info on this? |

Viking seem to have taken over the old XL routes, which is welcome news.
I've just booked a couple of flights from Gatwick to Skiathos, for May and September next year.
Same dates, departure times and flight lengths as the old XL routes.
Cost almost exactly the same as well!
You can find booking details on Travel Republic.

What good news!
More people in Skiathos and more money for the islanders again! |

Who are Viking? Never heard of them. Prices look reasonable but can you trust them? _________________ www.ClearSpray.co.uk |

Definitely not HippyChic but they appear to be a Scandinavian airline with not very good reviews on other sites. I dont know who to try and book with at the moment And the prices now they all seem to be cashing in on the misery. _________________ www.ClearSpray.co.uk |

Hi Diamond
The Viking prices are just about the same as the old XL prices.
Every other airline has put £70 to £100 on the Skiathos prices, but Viking seem to have picked up the routes, slots and charges from XL.
I've just paid the deposit on two 2009 flights, on a credit card and through Travel Republic. Fully covered as far as I know.
Thought I'd better buy quick before Viking realise they are significantly cheaper than the competition!

| Watch out for Viking, I'm sure they used to have something to do with the worlds worst airline "Air Scandic" until they went bust. So many delays, Air Scandic were pants, although they never had any luck the only time they were due to land in Skiathos on time, the air traffic controller slept in and they had to divert to Volos. It's just not Skiathos it happens at, it was on the news the other day that two airlines were circling over Lesbos for an hour when there guy did the same!! |

Interesting
Says in Wikepedia Viking were linked with XL/Kosmar. Must be why they have been able to pick the exact same routes up.
Also says they only have 1 'plane. Let's hope they get all the old XL ones before 2009!!!

I am afraid that is what I picked up on, Vikings delays so I am not prepared to risk it at the moment God, if they only have one plane, how will they cope? I am hoping it will all calm down and give people time to think and not panic buy flights. _________________ www.ClearSpray.co.uk |

| Guy - all sorted for 2009! Ian and me are still thinking it over (the risk factor coming through!!) Still waiting for things to settle down a bit - at least you have got in there early if all pans out - you will definitely be on the "one plane"!!! |

I have just looked at the flight schedule for Viking for Sept 4th 2009 and they seem to have 3 flights per week from Manchester,Birmingham & Gatwick.
These are all on a Tuesday ,Wednesday & Friday and all at 7am !!!!!
They only have one plane at the moment and intend buying one more, that still makes them one plane short.I think I am correct in saying they also fly to other destinations.
I hope it is not going to be a case that if one flight is not full they will inform those passengers that they are flying from another airport to make up a full load.
To travel from Gatwick to Manchester or vice versa would be a nightmare.
I think at the moment it would be wise to sit and see what happens. |

| Code: | | If you buy now, at what are effectively last years prices, through a bonded travel agent, your cash is safe and, if Viking can't deliver, you can buy from one of the other airlines. |

Or, to put it another way, how long do you wait (not just you, Zeus, this is nothing personal!) before deciding what to buy?
