I submitted a claim to ATOL the day after XL went bust because I had booked flights through Freedom Flights for next years Skiathos trip. I have yet to receive any correspondance back from ATOL.

Has anybody else made a claim for a future trip and received any correspondance from ATOL yet (Claim Number or got their money back)?

Hi BB & LB

Just this morning a formal notice from something called CEGA dropped through my letterbox.

CEGA seems to be an insurance company of some sort, so the CAA must have contracted the job out to them. My letter was signed by the CAA travel claims department.

The letter says they "endeavour" to fully settle claims within 40 working days.

Or, to put it another way, my money might be returned to me by Christmas!

Guy

Thanks Guy,

Hopefully I may be receiving some sorrespondance soon then. Although with up to 200000 claimants, it still might be a while!!

An unexpected letter from Kroll arrived today the Joint Administrators of XL.Com.

It is hardly written in what we would call plain English but I think it is telling me I can let them know if XL owe me anything.

Well, it's worth a try.

ps (those bangles are definitely going Mrs W!!!)

My XL flights were credited back to our visa on 29/09/09. I spoke with the bank yesterday and it is all sorted!

Trying to decide when and where to book for June now - AGAIN!

Very interesting.

Much faster than the ATOL process, then.

I had an e-mail from ATOL on Friday, which said they had just started issuing claim numbers for Freedom Flight claimants and I should received one within 7-14 days.

I wait with anticipation!!!

I received my letter from CEGA today, They seem to have dropped the statement "endeavor to settle within 40 days", and have not quoted any time scale other than "as quickly as possible".

Have you received your refund yet Guy?

Howdy

Nope, no money yet.

Just a letter dated 30 October which, rather worryingly, says;

"your claim may take longer than we would have anticipated", and

"it is possible that we may require further information", and

"it would be helpful if you could please refrain from contacting us".

Oh dear!

and I got one back from Kroll saying we couldn't claim because we may have paid on Visa debit - they obviously didn't read my letter which explained I paid by switch (I don't have a visa debit card) Evil or Very Mad Mad Sad

Hi Guy

Not that i know of but got another phone call from the travel agents asking for the original reciepts instead of photocopies (which is what they asked for in the first place Confused )

by the way, i paid cash & had to go see a solicitor (because it was over £500) to get him to sign something to say he'd seen the original reciept, (that was another £40 Sad )
apparently if you use cash now you've got to prove your not money laundering Confused

don't know if its a good thing or a bad one but at least someones looked at the claim somewhere along the line Confused

so sadly i'm still waiting Sad (£1500 altogether as we'd also paid two deposits for holidays this year) Crying or Very sad
