Well if nobody takes over the XL flights I suppose you have a couple of options.
1.Drive to Manchester, I'd go the night before to be safe & stop in a Travelodge for about £40 - £50. Think Maureen did this last year.
2. Fly to Stansted from Newcastle with Easyjet & get a train link from there to one of the London airports. I flew Newcastle to Stansted last year & it only cost me £40. Was cheaper for me to drive from Liverpool to Newcastle, stay at a mates house in Killingworth and then we both flew to London from there ......than it was to get the train from L'pool to London. |

I am going from Teesside to Manchester on the train. I used to go from Newcastle Airport but I have booked already from Manchester. There is a direct train to the airport so the journey is not too bad. It saves the cost of the parking as well.
You can even go through the night if you want. I did it once last year.
Perhaps a night in a cheap hotel is preferable. |

I'm in the same boat. I'm thinking, as soon as I book Manchester flights, someone will announce they've taken over the Newcastle flights.Sods Law.
It's £200 return to Manchester in a taxi!

| Why don't you drive down & stop in a hotel? A lot of them let you park for free, even if you only stay one night. Would be cheaper than a taxi. |

| We have a 2 hour drive up to Manchester so we always stay at Bewleys hotel the night before. We leave the car there too. It's a lovely hotel and we can relax once we are there and get a good meal. There is free transport to and from the airport. Cost us about £136 in September for one night stay and 7 nights parking. |

Sorry, before I saw this thread I've put some info on the Travel forum.
According to Newcastle Airport's web site they currently don't have an operator travelling to Skiathos since XL went bust but they are looking for new operators and you can sign up for an e.bulletin for updated info. |

| We went from Manchester in September (after changing our hol to Skopelos using Kosmar in June last year just to fly from the 'Toon' after Olympic hols lost seats on the Newcastle flight). It wasn't too bad from Manchester, though we had less leg room with Monarch than on XL. As we went on the Friday flight we stayed overnight on our return, at 10-30pm, parking the car on arrival and using the hotel mini bus to get to the airport before we flew out. We were too scared to wait and see for June next year so have done the same again with Olympic holidays staying at the Britania hotel on return with free parking. Would have travelled from Birmingham as our daughter lives at Worcester but package seats with Olympic were all gone. Want to go back in September too, but waiting to see what happens with Newcastle and living in hope some one will take over the flight slots without inflating the price too much |

just booked a couple of hols for next year in may & september from manchester thought it best to make sure.
not to set the alarm bells off but we did'nt have the same amount of choices of accomodation that we had this time last year
i'm sure someone will take over the newcastle flight as it was always full but its who & when, fingers crossed it will be soon
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE |

better flying from manchester than gatwick which we had to do last september a week after losing our hols from newcastle due to the xl crash
mind you, we were two of the lucky ones because we still got there
still waiting for our money though
anyway, we'd fly from the other end of the world to get to skiathos |
