Hi everyone,
Thank you all so much for the wealth of information you all have put into this forum. I'm writing because my Fiance and I are planning to do our wedding in Skiathos (in part because of the great feedback we read on this forum), but because I have family in Greece, it may end up being around 100 people. Most people here have posted things about smaller receptions, so I'm just wondering if any of you have some experience with larger weddings, or whether you've seen any bigger weddings taking place while you were there.
Also, we're planning for late Spring, but are wondering how chilly it will be. Did anyone have a reception by the sea at the end of May? (Any suggestions of good places by the sea?) Does it get really cold? Is it possible to have heat lamps?
Thanks! |

If your wedding takes place at the Bourtzi, this is the usual venue for weddings, then yes it will be by the sea as it is a wooded peninsular which sits between the new and the old harbour.
In May this year Asprolithos Taverna held a reception for well in advance of 100 people so that would be no problem for them, you will not be disappointed with either the food or the service but it is situated at the back of the town, heat lamps are provided in case of chilly evenings which can be expected in early May. I would have no hesitation in recommending Asprolithos.
I'm sure some more people will come in with their suggestions, the choice is endless. Good luck. |

Neither would we - we held our reception here this September (and met the lovely MrsW) and it was a superb evening! Food, service & atmosphere were perfect.

Thanks for the information. Do you have any cost estimates for the food and alcohol? Per person or something like that? I'm just wondering what we'd be looking at...
Thanks |

When you're there, pop in an speak to the manager and discuss your requirements.
He was ever so helpful (as were his wonderful staff) and really gets excited for you, and was very humbled that we wanted our reception to be held there...
We chose a platter of traditional starters for our guests, then we let them choose a dish of their choice off of the main menu, and we were supposed to have a wedding cake for the dessert, but unfortunately this didn't arrive, so they provided fresh fruit with sparklers and unbrellas and all sorts of things....
We just had house rosé/red/white wine and water served at the tables to keep the costs down, and not once did we feel pressured into doing anything we didn't want to.
I had napkins & name cards printed, and also had wine glass charms made and took them in and they "dressed" the table for us and it was just so perfect....
Go chat to him, he's fab
Hope you have a great time
Michelle

dear ceebv
i saw your letter and thought of providing some info .It is Anastasia and i met Michelle as i did her wedding legal papers and details as part of my business is wedding coordination on the island
i can inform you that in Skiathos there have been weddings with more than 300 people and there were no complications .In february i am aranging one (Greek Orthodox for 400 people)
The only question is the place you choose and the service they provide as
100 guests on a wedding venue need good service.
yes in May it may be chilly by the sea just because we do have high humidity standards in the islands
food costs vary on the island depending on the area but you may precise your budget and then there are many places you can choose in various areas min 15 17 euros without drinks 20 to 25 and then from 35 a till 65
these are identical prices for wedding meals .
yes drinks cost more but you may always specify the precise quantity and type of drinks served during the meal or after so you are in control
of the cost .
Hope this may apper helpfull to you
if you wish to discuss or put more questions pls do not hesitate to contact me

i think that you did well in choosing may as the time of the event.
one can find many great deals at this time, as it is not busy.
asprolithos is a great place, but i would strongly recommend the tennis club because there you wont have to worry about other people having a meal, the location ( parking, accessibility), the prices, and the ability to seat 100 or so guests inside in the worst scenario of rain, are better than anywhere else on skiathos.
cristos and cryssa have organized many lovely weddings, and other events. |

First of all,I know Anastasia and she is very good at her job.She helped many Olympic guests over the summer and all of them had nothing but praise for her.You will have no worries on that behalf.
Secondly,I can vouch for the tennis club as a venue. As I have a job with Olympic next year I shouldn't really big up places on the island, but due to the fact that I got married there 5 years ago and I didn't work as a rep then,it makes it ok.Go and speak to Christos. He is proffessional, polite and he and the staff really know how to treat people.
This is also the same for Asprolithos. We actually considered having our reception there but as Christos is an old pal we opted to go with him. _________________ www.perigiali-skiathos.com
