Got it in Asda yesterday, what a bargain! Watched it last night, such a great film, especially the views of our lovely piece of heaven.

Am I alone in thinking that Mama Mia is very poor? We were very, very disappointed with the DVD after all the preceding hype. Poor story, minimal views of the island , pathetic set, poor acting, abysmal "singing", totally ungreek.

No wonder the islanders wanted rid of the crew and stars. I can only imagine that the Greek Tourist Board must be pleased with the coverage but totally mystified as to why the film failed to show any of the wonderful islands.

Look on the bright side I suppose, it's not going to generate any extra tourism is it and we can keep Skiathos and Skopelos etc all to ourselves. Rolling Eyes

I think you are!

Locals enjoyed the hubub and crews and actors all who dumped cash on both islands... from what I've been told.. and the film had a very long and successful run here in the states - any of us who love Meryl Streep absolutely delighted in the fun she had making this film... If someone went to the movie expecting to see cinematic genius or a film of the year, well... this wasn't the one to go to see... Smile

I've been visiting the Sporades for 22 years or so.... I never get tired of the thousands of pictures we've taken (and still manage to take) of the islands, I've watched Eleni and High Season and Never on Sunday and lesser known Greek directed films over and over and over, and will never tire of watching Mamma Mia, because I well know the magic that lies beneath.

I am so sorry that you didn't enjoy!

Think you've hit the nail on the head there, Elle. It's a "fun" film & should be treated as such. Plus - at the end of the day, it's only because we're all Skiathoholics that we watch it, hoping to spot a favourite beach or bar etc. The millions of people who watch it & have never been to Skiathos wouldn't have a clue if there were minimal views of the island anyway.

After watching it for about ten minutes we forgot all about Skiathos and got thoroughly absorbed in the fun side of the film Laughing

You couldn't be further from the truth. Apart from the fact that they had to burn the school down to get her out of the infants......during the week it's her who goes to the Stags with her mum. Soft lad here, stays in & minds the kids Sad

So shove that up yer hoop! <-----------That better?
