Is it the place with the somewhat unusual furniture, tables and chairs made out of what looks like driftwood? |

On our first trip to Skiathos back in 94, there was a taverna, where they took you across the road and into the kitchen to see what was cooking - and you chose what you wanted there and then ... _________________

Ian,back in 94 did you ever walk down the strip for dinner? In those days most of the tavernas had their chairs and tables on the other side of the road but none of them had any decking or awnings or any of the stuff you will find these days. They were just plonked on the gravel willy nilly. The big building where the Harley davidson bar etc was just a waste ground and all of the bars and the odd club were just inside bars.
Happy days. _________________ www.perigiali-skiathos.com

I remember it being a bit of a wasteland, but we were very early in May. We did wander down there - Its quite a bit different now ... _________________

In May this year, we took a walk down club strip. With everything shut, and showing the signs of standing empty all winter, it had a pretty derelict look about it. The only sign of life wa a single guy with a paint brush in his hand standing in the middle of the road looking at BBC. _________________ Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream. |

A few very worthy mentions for the restaurants below, which we enjoyed each on a few ocassions during our stay.
Maniatis Garden - Achladies. Superb food, friendly service, right on beach - lovely setting.
Rose Garden - Achladies. Beautiful food, superbly cooked...plus lovely setting!
Infinity Blue - Kolios. Lovely setting (although we missed the sunset). Lovely food, waiting staff very attentive & helpful.
Scuna - Skiathos Town. Fantastic setting (we managed to get a table right by the water). Food was lovely, very romantic setting.
Windmill - Skiathos Town. I booked the Honeymoon Table before I left as a suprise for my partner.... lovely food (albeit not traditionally Greek), great waiting staff & the view has got to be the best on the island. I'd definitely recommend booking the Honeymoon Table as an extra special surprise!
And not strictly a restaurant, but have to mention the bakers/cake shop in Achladies next to the Supermarket - the MOST delicious cakes I've ever eaten! You'll have trouble deciding which one to have! |

Hi Crumpet,
I have to agree about Rose Garden and the Windmill Honeymoon table.
Great name by the way, I could just eat one of you right now, lathered with melting butter and a nice brew. _________________ you heard it here first - BOJAN! |

I suppose everyone is right on here, when we visit a taverna on Skiathos which I must add is everynight. We tend to judge the place by the all round experience and the food is just one part of that (big part admittedly)
We have been going to Skiathos now for a number of years and we can't remember having a bad meal. We can recall having meals that were better than others but no really bad ones. Both my wife and I are vegetarians so perhaps our perspective is slightly different.
I will list our top 3
No 1 Johnnys Taverna (Yannis) at the side of the Kanapitsa beach (bus stop No 12
No 2 1901 in the heart of the town we love the novelty of moped riders pinching our chips as they ride past
No 3 Captain Nikos at the junction in Troulos bus stop no.18
Perhaps there are others on the island that serve better food but we have voted these for the all round experience of our night there.
To be honest we just love being on the island and forgive almost anything.

Over the years we've eaten at a lot of the places in Skiathos Town. All of them were excellent - never a bad meal, mostly fantastic!
My advice is keep exploring - we still find undiscovered tavernas after 4 holidays there!
However, we've got to mention the OASIS apartments - not a taverna....but we eat there from time to time and what a cracking experience it is!
You're cascaded with lovely food till you roll over and cry NO MORE, and the service is fantastic
