The only person to smoke in the kitchen of The Windmill was Dr. Cholas, head honcho at the Health Centre, while he was with the Health inspectors doing their annual rounds!

I remember getting on the bus and the driver would have a tab on the go and be wearing a Hawaiian shirt and when I opened a bank account the lady behind the jump had a fag burning away in an ashtray.
Thats what we want to see!!

What about when the bus driver has a ciggy in one hand and a mobile in the other (whilst driving of course)!

How things change, a few years back we called in and had a meal at the Summer Palace, chinese / indian restaurant next to stamelos bar at bus stop 23. Had a great meal, good service, excellent everything. So this time, wanted to get down there again for another meal pretty soon after getting here.

Well how things have changed. The Head Waiter was rude, arrogant, busily typing into his blueberry rather than listening . My friend wanted a side dish of curry sauce, this he arragantly said he did not do normally as it was not on the menu, but he would do it.. Great we thought. Also they dont do Prawn crackers, name me another chinese restaurant in the world that does not do prawn crackers.

When the food arrived, there were no heat trays to keep the food warm, so soon enough the rice and noodles were cold. The rice was soggy anyway, and they had forgot about the curry sauce, so they had to be reminded, when it did show it self, they brought enough to fill an egg cup, and It was cold also.. It Did not matter at that stage as the friends main meal was now cold. When asked if i enjoyed my meal, i complained and it went over the poor lads head who looked like he did not care. It was a 50 euro meal that really was not worth more then the wine we had with the meal. Not Chuffed, was a real disappointing visit. Obviously wont be going there again this year.

Rant over - but avoid if you can. If the summer palace has anything to do stamelos bar I will be supprised as that place is brilliant, helpful staff, great drinks and a really ace atmosphere. Two places so close together, but so different.

We've avoided Stamelos ever since the time my hubby had a free ouzo before the meal and was sozzled almost immediately. Good job we were staying in Kouk. Honestly I had to hold him up. The meal was not good at all either, which didn't help his condition. Never did fancy the Chinese there either.

Back to fags etc...how did this thread get in the restaurants..or should that be restaurant's, Ian.. bit?

The most exciting thing to happen here in Afissos this week, apart from me splitting my shorts and showing the family jewells to the cleaner, was a funeral this afternoon of one of the locals. We were standing outside Marja's office at the harbour when the funeral procession went by on the way from the church to boot hill.
First the Priest, at a cracking pace..obviously wanted to get home in time for the footy.. followed by the hearse with the coffin.
Yes, you've guessed correctly..both undertakers had fags AND frappes in their hands! And it was the same guy who looked after dear old Keith from The Windmill a few years ago, so he stopped for a quick chat, causing a concertina collision of following cars and wailing old ladies. Meanwhile the Priest came sprinting back to see what was going on!!!

Just as well that they didn't know I am an experienced Greek Pall-bearer (3 on Skiathos, one with woodmonkey's assistance..plus two trips through Pelion with corpses) otherwise I might have been roped in this morning, jewells and all!!

While I understand everybody has different experiences of restaurants, it has been very helpful getting people's views on the restaurants they have eaten in. As a first time visitor, this was very helpful to us.

We had some fantastic meals in Skiathos... but unfortunately we had one very bad one, which left us very disappointed.

Carnayo Taverna in Skiathos Town

To cut a very long story short, my partner ordered a fillet steak well done - it turned up 'bleeding'. I had long finished my meal by the time his steak re-arrived. It was still not good - hardly any meat, mostly fat & gristle & still very pink. Unfortunately my partner bit the bullet & just ate as much as he could (we'd been in there a good while already). The Manager was not interested in our opinions/disappointment in his meal & mid-conversation with us, he walked away to "greet" some more diners. End of discussion.

Other than this arrogant treatment, our dining experiences of Skiathos were First Class.

I suppose everyone is right on here, when we visit a taverna on Skiathos which I must add is everynight. We tend to judge the place by the all round experience and the food is just one part of that (big part admittedly)

We have been going to Skiathos now for a number of years and we can't remember having a bad meal. We can recall having meals that were better than others but no really bad ones. Both my wife and I are vegetarians so perhaps our perspective is slightly different.

I will list our top 3

No 1 Johnnys Taverna (Yannis) at the side of the Kanapitsa beach (bus stop No 12

No 2 1901 in the heart of the town we love the novelty of moped riders pinching our chips as they ride past Very Happy

No 3 Captain Nikos at the junction in Troulos bus stop no.18

Perhaps there are others on the island that serve better food but we have voted these for the all round experience of our night there.

To be honest we just love being on the island and forgive almost anything.
